I just got off the phone with a Hyatt reservationist and she confirmed that that Park Hyatt Maldives is a category 6 hotel, which means you can use 22,000 points or free nights (I have two from a promotion event and she said I'll be able to use them for a dummy May 6-8 booking).

Other key information- you can pre-arrange transfers from the international airport, which takes approximately 2 hours 10 minutes for a $450 per person charge.

If you want to upgrade to larger suites, you can only do so using cash. The Park Pool Villa is an additional $1,070 per night and the Park Water Villa $1,200 and both of those rooms are around 1,500 sq feet. Those prices seem extreme and I think the rep may have been reading me the daily rate for the suites and not the upgrade price.

That's about all I have right now - great news - and I apologize for even suggesting Hyatt would classify this as anything but a category 6 hotel :-)

The wheels are already turning about planning a trip there. I'll work on putting together a, "How to get to the Maldives with points and miles" post shortly.

PS: Don't forget to register for the April 1- June 30 points promo: 10,000 points for the first 5 nights and then 5,000 points for every 2 nights after that (up to 60,000).
