Frontier doubles down on New York expansion with third nonstop from JFK
One route at a time, Frontier Airlines keeps expanding its footprint at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
The Denver-based budget carrier announced Thursday that it's adding its third nonstop route from the airport.
Starting in August, Frontier will launch daily service from the busy New York hub to the world's busiest airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).
The move comes just weeks after Frontier's first-ever flight from JFK launched to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Frontier has an additional nonstop to Las Vegas' Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) that's set to launch the same day, Aug. 13, as this Atlanta route.
"We're thrilled to announce this new service at JFK, offering area consumers affordable and convenient travel to Atlanta and beyond," Josh Flyr, Frontier's vice president of network and operations design, said in a statement.
Here's how the airline's JFK route map will look once this latest nonstop launches in August:

Doubling down on New York
Frontier will have competition on the JFK-to-Atlanta route. Delta Air Lines and JetBlue (which both operate hubs at JFK) also fly between the two airports. And Delta, of course, operates a megahub at the other end in Atlanta.
Though Frontier's JFK expansion is notable since the carrier had never served the airport until this summer, its overall growth in the New York City area is striking, too.
Amid a larger network shake-up aimed at boosting its profitability, the ultra-low-cost carrier is set to grow its seats by 207% out of the metro area's three largest airports, according to data from aviation analytics firm Cirium. Those airports are JFK, LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
Frontier recently returned to the latter airport with nonstop service from Newark to San Juan, mirroring a route it also launched this month from JFK.
Bottom line
Don't expect Frontier to deliver the luxurious experience you'll find at JFK on some of the international carriers — not to mention Delta Air Lines, which just opened a swanky new Delta One Lounge this week.
However, the airline is injecting some additional competition into the market with its growing list of nonstop flights. And, for travelers willing to pay a bit more, you can select the airline's Upfront Plus seating option featuring a bit more legroom and a blocked middle seat.
