Citi credit card holders: Check your email. You might have a valuable offer to earn up to 5 ThankYou points per dollar on your spending.

Depending on what card(s) you have, there are at least two offers floating around. You could earn at gas stations, grocery stores, drugstores and transit through one offer, and electronics stores, department stores, home improvement stores and home furnishing stores with another.

Here's a look at the offers and which cards are being targeted.

Current Citi spending offers

Promotions vary by cardholder, but two offers have been arriving via email. You can earn 5 points per dollar in predetermined spending categories through May 31. You must activate your offer by April 15.

With this offer, you can earn a maximum of 2,500 bonus ThankYou points after spending $500 across the bonus categories. Those categories are:

  • Drugstores.
  • Gas stations.
  • Grocery stores.
  • Mass transit and commuter transportation vendors.

Another promotion offers the same number of points but in different categories:

  • Consumer electronics stores.
  • Department stores.
  • Home furnishing stores.
  • Home improvement stores.

Note that these are targeted offers. That means not everyone will see the same offers or may not receive any offers at all.

It's also important to note that the limit of bonus points is across all categories in your offer. Thus, you can't spend $500 at gas stations and $500 at drugstores to earn 5,000 points in the first offer above. The spending is cumulative across all of your categories.

We have seen these offers on the following cards:

The information for the Citi ThankYou Preferred and Prestige cards has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

A third offer is tied to payments made with PayPal.

This offer provides 5% cash back on PayPal purchases with a maximum of $75 back. This requires $1,500 of spending to maximize and runs through March 31.

We've only seen this offer on the Citi Double Cash® Card (see rates and fees) at present, but other cardholders may be targeted as well.

Bottom line

These promotions are arriving by email and mail, so keep your eyes open for them. Citi ThankYou Rewards are worth 1.8 cents apiece, according to TPG's valuations. Thus, earning 5 points per dollar would represent a 9% return on spending.
