Breeze announces 18 new routes, 5 new cities — including first Newark flights
Breeze Airways is planning a major network expansion, announcing a whopping 18 new routes on Wednesday. As part of the network moves, the Utah-based carrier will add five new cities to its route map.
Among the new airports is Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Though Breeze will only serve one nonstop destination from Newark, it's a milestone — marking the carrier's first time serving one of the New York City area's three largest airports.
And Breeze is making a far bigger splash in several other cities where it prepares to launch service for the first time.
Between now and February, the carrier will debut four new routes from Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) in Florida. It'll also begin operations in Erie, Pennsylvania; South Bend, Indiana; and Wilmington, North Carolina, near the Atlantic coast.

This swath of new routes also will see Breeze double down on its soon-to-launch base, Fort Myers' Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), and broaden its footprint at several Northeast airports where it's been expanding in recent months, including Westchester County Airport (HPN) in White Plains, New York.
In all, these five new airports will give the carrier 64 nonstop destinations across 30 states, Breeze said Wednesday.

This expansion by Breeze places a heavy emphasis on leisure routes from underserved airports, particularly on the East Coast.
Head-to-head with Avelo
It's also worth noting the carrier will compete with fellow startup airline Avelo, which also launched service in 2021 and is itself fresh off a major network expansion.
The two airlines will go head-to-head on three of the four routes Breeze is launching from Wilmington.
Breeze and Avelo will directly compete on the Daytona Beach-to-Hartford route, and indirectly with Breeze's new Westchester County flight — Avelo currently flies from Daytona Beach to Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN) in Connecticut, which sits about 50 miles east of the Westchester airport and draws passengers from overlapping areas.

Bottom line
Breeze continues to grow its network, three years after commencing operations. The carrier's latest 18-route expansion includes a particular focus on growing in the Northeast, months after announcing major expansion plans in Providence.
The carrier is planning to shift to a fleet comprised entirely of Airbus A220 jets, and recently expanded its loyalty offerings with its Breezy Rewards program, including its first cobranded credit card.
