American Express is targeting some cardholders to earn bonus Membership Rewards points just for putting spend on their card. A couple of offers have been seen floating around Amex accounts, such as earning up to 1,500 bonus Membership Rewards points or up to 6,000 bonus points.

I was targeted on my Platinum Card® from American Express to earn 2,000 bonus Membership Rewards points after spending $4,000. For my offer — and others like it — you can earn the bonus up to three times by the time it expires on November 20, 2018. In total for this particular offer, you can earn a total of 6,000 bonus Membership Rewards points after spending $12,000 in just less than three months.

Based on TPG‘s most recent valuations, the maximum 6,000 bonus Membership Rewards points are worth $114. Other Amex cardholders have reported seeing similar offers. For example, earning 500 bonus points after spending $1,000 up to three times for a maximum return of 1,500 points — worth $28.50 based on TPG‘s most recent valuations.

While bonus points are always a positive thing, the minimum spending requirement in order to earn them is a bit on the high side. In order to earn the bonus 6,000 points, you have to spend $12,000 in less than three months, and in order to get the bonus 1,500 points on the other offer, you have to spend $3,000. That being said, if you’re planning to make a large purchase with your card, it could be worth it to try to work toward once of these minimums to get the bonus points. In addition, it appears as though this offer can be stacked with other Amex Offers out there, such as spending $200 with JetBlue to earn 4,000 bonus Membership Rewards points.
