The Bilt Mastercard was launched over the summer and lets home renters pay their monthly lease with a credit card fee free while earning reward points. Aside from rental earnings, the card is an attractive option for everyday spending since it accrues 2 points per dollar on travel and 3 points per dollar on dining.

On Black Friday, though, the Bilt Mastercard will (temporarily) become one of the best overall cards for shopping in general thanks to a special, limited-time promotion.

This Friday — Nov. 26, 2021 — purchases you make with your Bilt MasterCard will temporarily earn 5 points per dollar spent, regardless of the purchase category. The promotion runs from 12:00 am to 11:59 pm Eastern Time. You can earn up to 50,000 bonus points total, which would require spending $10,000 that day.

There are a few excluded transaction types, some of which include cash advances, gambling transactions, tax payments, court costs and insurance sales. Rent payments made via the card or its associated app will also continue to earn just 1 point per dollar.

But if you're using your card to purchase holiday gifts and for other everyday expenses, you should qualify for that higher earning rate. The two regular bonus categories -- travel and dining -- will also be bumped up to 5 points per dollar for the day.

New cardmembers in the first month intro period who are earning 2 points per dollar on purchases with the card will likewise see their earning jump to 5 points per dollar on Black Friday.

Overall, this promotion might be a good way for Bilt cardmembers to rack up bonus points just as they start their holiday shopping. It's a generous deal, even compared to other 5x earning offers currently out there. For instance, now through Dec. 31, 2021, the Chase Freedom Flex is offering 5x points/5% back on Walmart and PayPal purchases, but only on up to $1,500 spending. By contrast, the Bilt's bonus is effectively capped at $10,000. That said, you do only have a single day to take advantage of it, so you'll have to be strategic in order to maximize Bilt's promotional bonus.

As a Bilt cardholder myself, I plan on maximizing this promotion by buying gifts for friends and family and prepaying some of my ongoing expenses like utilities. The points I earn should help me fund a big holiday trip I'm planning since Bilt Rewards points transfer to major airline and hotel programs like American Airlines AAdvantage and World of Hyatt.

Don't have a Bilt MasterCard yet? You can apply on the Bilt website and skip the waitlist with code "TPG4BILT." You'll get your virtual card number instantly and can add the card to Apple Pay or another digital wallet from the app, so you can take advantage of the Black Friday promotion even without a physical card.
