LaGuardia and Newark just got a surprising new airline — and flights to Bermuda
Two of the New York City region's largest airports are getting new nonstop flights to Bermuda.
Leisure airline BermudAir will land at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in October, shifting to the city's main airports from the northern suburbs.
The Bermuda-based carrier that offers signature dark and stormy cocktails onboard will begin flights from Bermuda's L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA) to EWR on Oct. 26, BermudAir said Thursday.
Three days later, it will debut flights from BDA to LGA. And, on Dec. 18, BermudAir's new subsidiary, AnguillAir, will launch twice-weekly flights on Thursdays and Sundays from Anguilla's Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA) to EWR.
BermudAir will serve EWR from BDA twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays, and it'll serve LGA twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The airline flies a mix of Embraer E175 and E190 aircraft.
As part of the network shift, the carrier will end service to Westchester County Airport (HPN) near White Plains, New York (north of New York City) when its EWR and LGA flights begin.

"Expanding our New York-area service is a significant step forward for BermudAir, providing both leisure and corporate travelers with more flexibility and convenient access to Bermuda," Adam Scott, founder and CEO at BermudAir, said in a statement.
It's still unclear exactly how this smaller airline gained access to two highly coveted airports in LaGuardia and Newark.
Takeoff and landing rights at LGA are governed by tightly regulated slots, and runway timings at EWR are similarly competitive. BermudAir declined to say where it sourced the new LGA slots and EWR runway timings necessary for these flights.
This expansion comes amid questions about BermudAir's future. The operator of BDA, Skyport, sued the airline in July for "millions of dollars" in unpaid airport fees, according to local reports.
BermudAir launched in 2023 as an all-business class airline linking Bermuda to North American cities. Its strategy subsequently evolved into offering a more traditional, dual-class onboard product on its four E175s and E190s.

The airline's network is in flux. In addition to the New York-area changes, BermudAir ends service to Charleston International Airport (CHS) in South Carolina on Oct. 26, and Hartford's Bradley International Airport (BDL) on Dec. 14, schedule data from aviation analytics firm Cirium shows. It ended flights to Providence's Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport (PVD) in July.
BermudAir does not currently have a loyalty program or participate in any programs.
The carrier will be the only airline to link LGA with Bermuda. It'll have competition on its EWR-BDA route with United Airlines.
