Alila is taking over Andaz Mayakoba in Mexico
When Andaz Mayakoba recently announced it would be closing for a yearlong renovation period starting in March, rumors started to fly that the hotel would be reflagged as an Alila property.
Now, Hyatt has confirmed that the popular property in Mexico's Rivera Maya area will, in fact, reopen at the end of the year as the Alila Mayakoba, the first Alila property in the region.
Alila is an upscale brand rooted in sustainability, local culture, connections and experiences, making it an obvious fit for the Mayakoba resort complex that also includes luxury competitors like Rosewood, Fairmont and Banyan Tree.

It makes sense that Mexico City-based RLH Properties would want to transform the resort and its beautiful mangrove surroundings into the nature- and wellness-forward Alila brand. As part of the process, the company will upgrade the 148-acre property using eco-friendly practices, like increasing the number of rooms and suites with new wellness-focused touchpoints, adding new wellness spaces and renovating the spa with new amenities like a Mexican steam bath and outdoor hydrotherapy pools.
Alila Mayakoba will introduce a series of new restaurant and bar concepts as well, including two signature restaurants, an all-day restaurant with an organic garden, a coffee shop, a lobby bar and a new beach club and restaurant.
"The planned transformation of this beloved resort into a magnificent Alila Mayakoba will inspire guests and ignite curiosity, incorporating local traditions into the guest experience with thoughtful conservation practices that make a positive impact, allowing guests the ability to be involved in the preservation of Mayakoba," Pete Sears, Hyatt's group president for the Americas, said in an official statement. "As the first Alila branded hotel in Latin America and the Caribbean, we are proud to soon introduce a new level of luxury, sustainability and impactful well-being that inspires guests to interact with the local community and truly immerse themselves in an authentic experience."
What to do if you already have reservations at Andaz Mayakoba
For people who have already booked stays at Andaz Mayakoba from March 2 on, Hyatt said in the following statement that it is working to relocate guests:
"The hotel is offering guests and World of Hyatt members with existing reservations at Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya for stays after March 2, 2025 until the hotel resumes operations, the option to relocate to other Hyatt properties or another hotel within the Mayakoba complex or cancel their stay with no penalty. Should a guest or World of Hyatt member have questions or need assistance, please contact Hyatt at 888-848-9496 (within the Americas) or 1-402-952-1131 (outside of the Americas)."
