The American Express Green Card often gets left behind in the shadows of its older siblings The Platinum Card® from American Express and the American Express® Gold Card, but its increased Clear benefit is giving it a moment in the spotlight.

Previously, The Green Card had a benefit of $100 toward a Clear membership. However, that benefit has increased to $189, which is enough to cover a full Clear Plus membership for one person. (Read on to learn how to add another person for free.)

To take advantage of this benefit, use your American Express Green Card to pay for your annual Clear airport membership. You'll earn up to $189 in statement credits after you purchase your Clear Plus membership on this card.

This benefit is even better for Delta SkyMiles and United Mileage Plus members. If you're a member of one of these programs (which are free to join), you can get a Clear membership with a discount — though how much depends on your elite status level. Discounted pricing could range from $179 ($10 off) to a free membership each year.

Clear allows you to add up to three people to your account for just $60 per person, meaning members of these loyalty programs can cover the cost of their own Clear membership and almost cover one additional person with this increased credit.

If you aren't already a Delta SkyMiles or United MileagePlus member, you can sign up for free for either or both programs and take advantage of this lower cost.

Another piece of good news is that this increased perk comes without an increase in the card's $150 annual fee (see rates and fees). If you're someone who benefits from a Clear membership, this perk alone makes the annual fee worth paying.

Note that this increased benefit is only available for the American Express Green Card. Traditional Green Cards and Senior Green Cards are not eligible for this benefit.

If you're an American Express Green Card member, ensure you're taking full advantage of this Clear membership benefit to ease the stress of your upcoming travel.
