Amex Platinum to lose SiriusXM as digital entertainment credit partner

Radio lovers, listen up — you might soon be paying more for your in-car subscription.
The Platinum Card® from American Express, with its $695 annual fee (see rates and fees), is one of our favorite premium travel credit cards.
The card comes with various monthly statement credits, including the digital entertainment credit, which is an up to $20 monthly credit that can be used for a variety of services. (Enrollment is required.)
Unfortunately, SiriusXM will be removed as a digital entertainment partner in May. Here are the details.
Amex Platinum losing SiriusXM credit
The Amex Platinum card offers am up to $20 monthly digital entertainment credit for the following services:
- Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ — or a Disney+ Bundle (which includes up to all three services)
- Peacock
- SiriusXM
- The New York Times
- The Wall Street Journal
However, it will lose SiriusXM as a digital entertainment partner May 8, as first reported by Frequent Miler.
You will not see the change anywhere if you use the digital entertainment credit on anything besides SiriusXM. TPG staffers who use the credit for other services, like Disney+ and The New York Times, have checked and have not received notice of the change, nor is it on the card's application page.
However, those who do use the credit for SiriusXM, like TPG aviation reporter Sean Cudahy, have received notice on their most recent credit card statement that SiriusXM will be removed.

Here are Sean's most recent entertainment charges:

We don't have any word on Amex replacing SiriusXM with another partner, but we'll keep readers posted on any changes.
This follows Amex adding The Wall Street Journal as a digital entertainment credit partner in August 2023 and removing Audible in October 2023.
If you want to continue subscribing to SiriusXM after it is dropped as a partner from the digital entertainment credit, you might want to consider paying for it with a card like the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express, which earns 6% cash back on U.S. streaming services. Cash back is received in the form of Reward Dollars that can be redeemed as a statement credit and at Amazon.com checkout.
If you are a T-Mobile customer with a select plan, you can receive six months of SiriusXM for free. Additionally, I recently had SiriusXM and called its customer service and told the agent I was looking to cancel. They offered me a few months free and a discounted rate for 12 months, similar to that of a credit card retention offer.
If you are looking for an alternative to SiriusXM covered under the digital entertainment credit from May, you might want to consider the Disney Bundle, as it covers the widest variety of content.

Bottom line
Platinum cardmembers who do not subscribe to SiriusXM will not be affected by this change. However, if you do, you'll want to use your credit with another digital entertainment partner from May 8.
We hope this change means Amex will add more partners to the digital entertainment credit, and we'll keep you posted on any additions.
