Watch an Airbus A350 Train for a Crosswind Landing
Crosswind landings can look harrowing when viewed from the ground (or online), but rest assured that pilots spend many hours training for exactly these kinds of situations. In this crazy aviation video, watch an Airbus A350 make a landing at Stornoway Airport (SYY) in Scotland as part of its training for difficult crosswind landings. The airport often has powerful crosswinds, making it the perfect place to train for the real thing.
At the beginning of the video, the aircraft approaches the runway at a 45-degree angle, briefly touching the tarmac before straightening — known as a touch-and-go. It climbs once again, but gets buffeted by another strong crosswind before it flies out of the frame into the Scottish sky.
