How to Link Your Virgin America and Alaska Airlines Accounts
Late last year, the Virgin America and Alaska Airline merger closed, and we almost immediately got word of how the integration process would begin. For starters, we found out that as of earlier this week, you could transfer Virgin America Elevate points to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan at a 1 to 1.3 ratio. And as of today, you can now link your Elevate and Mileage Plan accounts by clicking the link in the email you may have received from Virgin or Alaska.
Today, Alaska and Virgin are sending out emails to customers with account numbers for the opposite program and with news of a status match. I have Virgin America Elevate Gold status, which matched to Alaska Mileage Plan MVP Gold status. I also got word that I would be able to select 10,000 Mileage Plan miles or $100 off any Alaska-operated flight as an additional benefit.
If you have an account with both Alaska and Virgin, you'll be able to link your existing accounts through Alaska. If you don't yet have an account, you'll get a new Alaska account number in your email and will be able to activate that account.
How to Link Accounts
Because I already have a Mileage Plan account, I was able to visit the link Alaska link account page and log in to my Mileage Plan account. If you chose to link an existing account, Alaska will automatically deposit the 10,000 miles in your account — you won't have a chance to opt for the $100 discount.
Once logged in, my Virgin America Elevate account information populated. I made sure to check the Yes, link my accounts option and selected Continue.
After clicking Continue, I got a notification that Alaska had received my information.
My account isn't yet showing my Gold status or 10,000 miles, but according the email I got, that info should show up.
Keep in mind that as of this week, you can also transfer Mileage Plan miles to Elevate points. As a reminder, Elevate points transfer to Mileage Plan miles at a 1 to 1.3 ratio — you won't be able to transfer in the opposite direction from Mileage Plan to Elevate. Now that you can link Elevate and Mileage Plan accounts, this is another step in the full integration of the two brands following the closing of the merger.
