Review of Hyatt Place Midtown in NYC
On a recent trip to New York City we started off living the high life at the Park Hyatt New York just two blocks from Central Park, enjoying including Globalist room service breakfast, swimming in the luxurious indoor pool, and spending 30,000 Hyatt points per night for that privilege. That was obviously a fantastic experience, but since the junior suite only had one real bed, despite its opulence, it really wasn't the perfect spot for the three of us, especially sine it was at the top end of the Hyatt award chart.
So after a night in fairytale-luxury-land we packed up our bags and Uber-ed it down to 36th Street to check into the Hyatt Place Midtown. This well located property is a Category 5 Hyatt that rings in a 20,000 points per night. Most of the NYC Hyatts are 25,000 points and up per night, so this is a strong contender if you want to stretch your points. The hotel is within easy walking distance to the Times Square theater district, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, and more. However, as I share in this post comparing the standard rooms available in the various NYC Hyatt properties, the standard rooms available here on points sadly do not have two beds, but instead just have a king bed.
Thankfully, for our dates a room with two queens was priced fairly at about $200 per night, so that was a better value than spending 20,000 Hyatt points at around a one cent per point return.
When you walk into the hotel, it is pretty much what you would expect if you are familiar with the Hyatt Place brand. It is bright, colorful, and staffed by friendly front desk staff. Our room wasn't quite ready when we arrived around check-in, but we were offered free drinks and snacks while we waited.

The lobby has two complimentary computers with a printer that you can use to print boarding passes or just surf the internet if needed. Given the small lobby and the 185 rooms in the hotel, it was quite busy in there at times, but since it isn't generally the kind of place you are hanging out for long periods of time this wasn't a problem.
Just like at other Hyatt Place properties, they do offer complimentary breakfast in the mornings, though we did not take advantage on our stay as we were simply too tired to make it down ready for the day before the 9AM cut-off time. While I can't share first-hand info of the breakfast here, I can share that Hyatt Place breakfasts are generally totally adequate as they include breakfast sandwiches, waffles, french toast, pancakes steel cut oatmeal, and more. Breakfast here is served weekdays 6:30am – 9:00am weekends and holidays 7:00am – 10:00am.
What I can say from personal experience that the room with two queen beds and a couch was plenty comfortable for a family.

This is New York City, so hotel rooms are generally on the smaller side, but this room wasn't terribly small and had everything a family could need including a small fridge, couch, small desk, two beds, and a traditional tub/shower combo.

We were high enough up that street noise wasn't a huge problem and while we heard some noise from the hallway, it also wasn't to a problematic degree. Some degree of ambient noise is to be expected in New York, so bring ear plugs or a white noise app if you are noise sensitive when visiting Manhattan.
Whether you get a good paid rate and earn points, or use 20,000 points per night to stay at the Hyatt Place Midtown, I think it offers a good value in a good location for many popular NYC attractions. This is not where I would want to live if I again lived in NYC, but being able to walk over to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on this visit, or the Macy's on 34th and Rockefeller Center as we do on our Christmas visits, is really helpful. Getting hot breakfast thrown in (assuming you get up on time) is just icing on the cake.
This isn't where you go for luxury, but for a totally decent and clean room that is points-friendly, I have no issue recommending the Hyatt Place Midtown.
