World's Most Unusual Hotels: A Car-Themed Hotel in Germany

Ever dreamed of sleeping in a Cadillac Coupe de Ville at the drive-in movies? Well, now you can, at Germany's V8 Hotel, a spot designed to host both car and aviation lovers.

Located on what used to be an airport in Stuttgart, the V8 Hotel seems fairly simple on the outside, but once you're inside, classic-car fanatics can expect a full-on auto paradise. Starting with the lobby, you can enjoy vintage cars throughout the hotel.

All 34 rooms come equipped with telephones, TVs, and complimentary Wi-Fi, bottled water and coffee makers.

Ten of the rooms are car-themed and have funky, fun titles to reflect their decor: the Drive-In Cinema, the Car Wash, Route 66, the Camping Room, the Garage and the Racing Room.

Plane junkies will adore the Mercedes-Benz suite, located in the airport tower. This enormous room (almost 1,300 square feet) features its own rooftop deck with high-altitude views, and is spread out over four different floors. The second floor is a bathroom that includes a luxe bathtub and private sauna.

The third-floor sleeping quarters feature none other than a vintage Mercedes car bed surrounded by flashy auto murals.

If you love both planes and cars, the hotel also has a special experience called Take Off. The package includes the basics, like an overnight stay and breakfast, but also a flight-simulator experience where you'll board a Boeing 737 or Cessna 172 cockpit and enjoy a SimINN pilot experience. Aviation geeks will also be thrilled to hear the hotel was built on an airfield in Böblingen, the site of what was once the airport for the state of Baden-Württemberg.

Even the spa treatments are car-themed — they call it body tuning, naturally, and you can enjoy treatments like the Classic (a massage) or the Best of Oils (an aromatherapy massage with essential oils). There's also a fitness center available to all hotel guests, which includes access to a sauna.

The hotel also houses a free museum, Motorworld, which features a hall of legends, trading hall, garage and other fun exhibits for car lovers to check out. Hotel guests and visitors alike can enjoy this museum from 8:00am to 8:00pm (except Sundays or holidays, which have opening hours of 10:00am to 8:00pm).

Regular room rates start at 159 euros (~$181) per night, while car-themed room rates start at 179 euros (~$204) per night. While this hotel isn't a member of a specific loyalty group, using your Chase Sapphire Reserve to pay is always a good plan, as you'll earn 3x points on hotels and can avoid those pesky foreign-transaction fees. If you're staying more than four nights, use your Citi Prestige card, which offers a fourth-night-free benefit as well.

Getting There

The V8 hotel is located in Stuttgart, Germany, and the best way to get there is to fly to Frankfurt (FRA) from the US, and once you get there, take a short train ride (about 1.5 hours) to Stuttgart.
