It's no secret that Bali is home to luxurious resorts that cost a fraction of what comparable properties would cost in North America. In fact, there are four luxury Category 1 Hyatt properties on the Indonesian island of Bali.

World of Hyatt is one of just a handful of remaining hotel loyalty programs to still use an award chart. Unlike dynamic pricing, award charts lock in a fixed award price for your stay. So if cash prices are sky high, you can get tremendous value from your points.

In this guide, I'll show you one of my favorite uses of World of Hyatt points: booking an executive suite at the Grand Hyatt Bali for just 10,000 points.

Why it's special

The Grand Club at the Grand Hyatt Bali. HYATT

Using Hyatt points for upgraded rooms can be ferociously expensive — but that's not the case at the Grand Hyatt Bali.

The 1,500-square-foot Club Executive Suite King at the Grand Hyatt Bali starts at around $400, but during peak travel dates, the suite retails for over $500 per night. The room offers a marble bathroom, tropical views and Grand Club privileges. At this resort, the Grand Club offers complimentary breakfast, snacks and evening hors d'oeuvres with alcoholic beverages included.

HYATT.COM

When you redeem Hyatt points at the Grand Hyatt Bali, you'll be given four different room choices. You'll notice a range in prices for off-peak, standard and peak pricing.

HYATT.COM
  • Standard room free night — standard king or two twin beds (528 square feet): 3,500 to 6,500 points per night.
  • Regency Club free night — standard king or two twin beds with club access (528 square feet): 5,500 to 8,500 points per night.
  • Standard suite free night — Grand Suite King (1,055 square feet): 6,500 to 9,500 points per night.
  • Premium suite free night — Club Executive Suite King (1,518 square feet): 7,000 to 13,000 points per night.

Ten thousand Hyatt points — which TPG values at $170 — will get you the premium suite during standard pricing dates. So yes, a suite that would total $490.05 is "free" using just 10,000 points.

How to book this award

HYATT

You can book this suite on hyatt.com the same way that you would redeem points for any Hyatt property. Let's run through it.

Sign up for our daily newsletter

Once you've logged in to your Hyatt account, type "Bali, Indonesia" in the destination bar, your desired dates and the number of travelers and select "Use Points" before searching.

HYATT.COM

On the next page, select "View Rates" on the Grand Hyatt Bali entry.

HYATT.COM

Next, toggle over to "Premium Suite Free Night," and you'll find the Club Executive suite if it's available. Click "Select" to book. In our tests, there was widespread award availability for this suite.

You'll then be brought to the final checkout page. Since you're using points, the service fee is waived, allowing you to stay with no cash out of pocket.

How to earn points for this award

Hyatt offers two cobranded Chase credit cards: the World of Hyatt Credit Card and World of Hyatt Business Credit Card.

Additionally, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards points to World of Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio.

Bottom line

For 10,000 points — or 7,000 points on off-peak dates — you'll find yourself lounging in a 1,500-square-foot premium suite at the Grand Hyatt Bali with access to the Grand Club, where you can enjoy a complimentary breakfast, evening hors d'oeuvres and happy hour. By redeeming your points for this suite, you'll be getting around three times TPG's valuation for your hard-earned World of Hyatt points.

And why not make this the trip of a lifetime by traveling there on ANA's Room business class for 100,000 points per person round-trip?
