Amex cardholders can again transfer points to Etihad Guest

On July 15, we reported that American Express Membership Rewards transfers to Etihad Guest were unavailable due to a website outage. Thankfully, the transfer option is back after being unavailable for almost a week.

The outage prevented Amex members from moving points to the Etihad Guest program, an Amex spokesperson told TPG last week.

As a result, Etihad Guest did not appear as a transfer option on Amex's website. It has since returned, and transfers are again processing. Transfers from Amex to Etihad Guest may take up to 48 hours to process.

This glitch came at a bad time for travelers as Amex is running a 20% transfer bonus for Etihad Guest.

The offer runs through July 30 and is a great way to book an American Airlines flight at a steep discount. The transfer bonus has not been extended in response to the outage, but cardmembers still have nine days to take advantage of the promotion.

We're happy to see Etihad Guest transfers return to Amex Membership Rewards — especially before the 20% transfer bonus expires. Check out our full guide to Etihad Guest redemptions for more details on the program.
