WOW Air has gotten in on the Black Friday fun and is offering flyers deals through a promo which it's calling "Purple Friday." You can find one-way fares from select US cities to a number of European destinations starting at just $99.99, and other US cities starting at $129.99 one-way.

[Update, 3/28/2019: WOW Air has ceased operations. Find our ongoing coverage of WOW Air's collapse, and what affected passengers can do about it, here.]

Purple Friday fares are broken down into two categories, based on where you're originating in the US:

  • Starting at $99.99 — Departing from Boston (BOS), Pittsburgh (PIT) and Chicago (ORD); fly on select dates from December 2017 through May 2018
  • Starting at $129.99 — Departing from Miami (MIA), Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO); fly on select dates from December 2017 through March 2018

For all of the six aforementioned cities, you can find the cheapest fares on routes to Reykjavik (KEF), Amsterdam (AMS), London (LGW) and Dublin (DUB). Note that we're only finding the cheapest fares on round-trip tickets — not one-way.

Here are some examples of what you can purchase:

Boston (BOS) to London (LGW) for $290 round-trip:

Chicago (ORD) to Amsterdam (AMS) for $290 round-trip:

As you can see, this isn't a groundbreaking sale from WOW. In fact, we've often seen cheaper fares from the carrier — this seems more like a re-branding of the carrier's everyday fares.

Keep in mind, too, that WOW Air is a low-cost carrier, meaning you'll pay fees for things that are usually free. Fees you'll pay range from meals to seat assignments to checked baggage and more. So, while the fare may seem too good to pass up, keep in mind that if you want to customize your trip, you'll have to pay even more. Check out what the WOW Air experience was like when TPG's Brendan Dorsey flew it.

Be sure that if you do take advantage of a fare from this Purple Friday sale to purchase your ticket with a credit card that will earn you bonus points. For example, the Platinum Card from American Express will earn you 5x points on the cost of your ticket when booked through WOW.
