Sample flights
Given that this sale is rather restrictive, it only leaves a limited travel window. Nonetheless, you can find some good deals, including the below one-way routes from the West Coast:
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) and Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) to
Lihue Airport (LIH), starting at $91. - San Diego International Airport (SAN) to Kahului Airport (OGG), starting at $95.
- LAX to OGG, starting at $119.
- Sacramento International Airport (SMF) to OGG and Oakland International Airport to Hilo International Airport (ITO), starting at $138.
- Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) to OGG, starting at $154.
To search this deal, use Southwest's Low Fare Calendar to view flights from your departing airport to your Hawaiian island of choice. Then, filter results for the months of December, January, February and March.
As you can see from the calendar, you can use the promo code "GOHAWAII30" to book two discounted one way-flights to make a round-trip flight. For example, you could book LAX-HNL in mid-January for $186 round-trip. Be sure to select the discounted fare type, which is indicated by the original fare with a line through it, as shown below.

You could also book this flight for 10,918 Southwest Rapid Rewards points which, based on TPG's current valuations of RR points, would save you $10.
Note that this sale is for discounted flights for all Southwest fare types, which include two free checked bags and two free carry-on items. All of its fare types, including the most restrictive Wanna Get Away fare, are eligible for cancellation up to 10 minutes ahead of flight time. If you used points to book your fare, those points will return to your account. Otherwise, those who use cash to book a Wanna Get Away fare will receive a flight credit for future use (which can really be used at any time since it doesn't expire).
Maximize your purchase
Be sure to use a credit card that earns bonus points on airfare purchases to book this deal. If you are a Southwest frequent flyer, use your Southwest Rapid Rewards Priority Credit Card to earn 3 points per dollar on Southwest purchases. Or consider the Citi Premier® Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve, which both give you 3 points per dollar on airfare. Or try the American Express® Gold Card for 3 points per dollar on airfare when booked directly with the airline or through Amex Travel. Otherwise, think about using the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card which earns 2 points per dollar on travel. See this post for more ways to maximize airfare purchases.
Bottom line
Though this sale is restrictive in date availability, it's a good opportunity for travelers who are based on the West Coast to get to Hawaii.
Be sure to use the promo code "GOHAWAII30" to book your one-way or round-trip flight to Hawaii by Thursday.
