For readers based in Colorado, ski bunnies who hope to head there this winter or hikers looking for an early spring trip, Southwest Airlines has a special deal for you.

From now through Thursday, select flights to and from Denver and Colorado Springs are on sale, up to 50% off, for travel through May.

Deal basics

Airline: Southwest Airlines
Routes: To and from Denver and Colorado Springs
How to book: Directly with the airline, using the promo code "SAVENOW"
Travel dates: Feb. 20 to May 22, with the discount tied to a specific day of the week to travel
Book by: Thursday at 11:59 p.m. PST
Blackout dates: Vary by route

The percentage of savings varies by the day of the week you travel. For example, receive a 50% discount on fares for travel on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 40% off fares for travel on Mondays, 30% off flights on Thursdays through Saturdays (and for international flights/Hawaii), and 25% off fares booked for travel on Sundays.

Note that fares purchased through this sale are limited based on availability, for nonstop travel when available or a single connecting service. Rapid Rewards bookings do not include the $5.60 in taxes and fees each way.

Sample flights

To search flights for this sale, enter your departure city and Colorado Springs Airport (COS) or Denver International Airport (DEN) as your arrival location. As mentioned, this sale is limited to certain days and routes, and a test search conducted for this story showed such.

For example, searching for a round trip from Chicago's Midway International Airport (MDW) to DEN in late February revealed that discounted flights to DEN are available for $116, as shown below.

Although a promo fare is not available back to MDW for these dates, I noticed a $86 flight, which while not on sale, is cheaper than the promo fare.

Both flights bring this round-trip total to just over $200 for a Wanna Get Away fare.

If you have flexibility with your travel dates, use the airline's Low Fare Calendar to search your desired route, where you'll see if and when the sale fares are available. Promotional fares will be available for Wanna Get Way and Wanna Get Away Plus tickets. Both permit two free checked bags and two carry-on items, are refundable and can be canceled up to 10 minutes before departure for free changes. Note that Wanna Get Away fares that are canceled will receive a flight credit in lieu of a refund, and also include free inflight entertainment and messaging.

Bottom line

This is a rare targeted deal from Southwest for travel to Colorado for most of February through May. Though the discounted flights might not readily be available, you could also benefit from the often lower-than-competitor available flights outside of this limited promotion.
