There is a great sale happening right now for fall travel to Portugal. In fact, several airlines have deals for travel to Spain's neighbor in the Iberian Peninsula. The bulk of the best prices are for travel between September and December, but you can also find steals if you don't mind waiting to fly until early 2023.

As is typical with these largely discounted fares, the sale mainly involves economy tickets. The cheapest fares on United do not provide for a free full-size carry-on. But Iberia and TAP's economy fares do provide a free carry-on bag.

Thanks to Scott's Cheap Flights for being the first to catch this latest flight deal. Its basic membership is available for $49 per year. The Elite tier option is available for $199 per year, and that will get you access to deals on premium economy, business class and first class tickets. Being flexible with your plans is the best way to score the best prices on flights. Good luck searching and booking your trip.

Deal basics

Airlines: Air Canada, Iberia, Lufthansa, TAP, United
Routes: Boston, Chicago, Miami, Newark, NYC, San Francisco and others to Lisbon and Porto
How to book: Search Google Flights and book directly through the airline
Travel dates: September through March 2023

Sample flights

Let's start with a fantastic deal out of Newark. You can fly nonstop to Porto (OPO) from Newark-Liberty Airport in late September on TAP for just $372 round-trip. That's an incredible savings. This fare usually costs close to $1,000 at this time of year.

You can book a ticket on Iberia to Porto from Boston (BOS) for a Thanksgiving vacation for $402 round trip. This isn't a nonstop fare; there is a brief layover in Madrid, but you're saving almost 50% off normal prices. Iberia's economy tier does provide a free carry-on bag.

There are bargains to be found if you want to visit Portugal's capital city, too. Miami (MIA) to Lisbon (LIS) in February is on sale for $381 round trip on United. You get a free carry-on bag.

You can find an even better deal on Lufthansa in March. The same Miami-to-Lisbon itinerary costs $387, which is almost $500 less than you would normally expect to pay for this ticket.

You can book a fall trip from NYC to Lisbon at a nice rate. Air Canada has round-trip tickets from LaGuardia Airport to Lisbon in September for $392 round-trip, a significant markdown from regular prices.

We also found lots of great fares from the west coast. Lufthansa has tickets in September from San Francisco (SFO) to Lisbon for $430 round-trip, an incredible deal for this route.
