Mexico deal alert: Fly to Cancun, Cozumel, Merida and Tulum from $223 round-trip
If you've been hankering to plan a trip south of the border, this new fare sale gives you lots of options to choose from. Travel deals involving Mexico typically include Cancun and its white-sand beaches, and this one is no different. What makes this sale very enticing is that it also includes discounted flights across the Yucatan Peninsula to places like Cozumel, Merida and even the new Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport (TQO) in Tulum.
Departure cities include Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Houston, Minneapolis and New York City. Many cities have nonstop flights available. The travel window for this deal extends from August 2024 all the way through March 2025. If you're able to travel on short notice, some routes have round-trip fares available at lower-than-normal prices.
As with many fare sales, this one involves basic economy tickets. With JetBlue and United Airlines, it will cost an extra $35 to $45 each way to check luggage.

From Chicago, you can fly to Cancun in September for $245 round-trip on United. Note that you fly nonstop to Mexico, but the return flight has a layover in Houston. Still, that's a good discount for this route.

The same route is available for $269 round-trip in October.

We found nonstop flights from New York City's JFK to Cancun in the fall for $257 round-trip. Even better, these are JetBlue's Blue-tier tickets, which give you a free carry-on bag and seat selection.

If you live in the tri-state area, you can escape the winter cold in January by booking a round-trip ticket on United from Newark to Mexico for only $272. The departure flight has a layover, but the return flight is nonstop.

We found nonstop flights in August from Houston to Cozumel for $295 round-trip on United.

We didn't find a lot of availability from Minneapolis to Cozumel, but we did find this itinerary on American in May from MSP to CZM for $390 round-trip. That's nearly $300 less than what the route usually sells for.

If you live in Minneapolis and want a great deal, start planning a late-summer trip to Merida. We found United flights from Minneapolis to Merida for only $367 round-trip.

How rare is this discount for this route? Google Flights says this ticket typically costs around $1,100.

We also found a great deal to Merida, Yucatan's capital city, from Atlanta. You can fly nonstop on Aeromexico from Atlanta to Merida in September for $302 round-trip.

If you live in Chicago and are eyeing a visit to Tulum and its pristine beaches and outstanding food scene, July is the month to target. That's when we found the best availability and prices. For example, this nonstop itinerary on United from ORD to TQO is available for only $223 round-trip — a really good discount.

Nonstop flights from Houston to Tulum on United are also available in the summer for $233 round-trip.

There are also lots of discounts on flights from New York to Tulum. American has round-trip flights from LaGuardia to Tulum in August for $276. There are layovers each way, but you're still saving a good amount on the fare.

Pro tip: If you book a trip to Merida, make sure to visit the downtown area, known as the Centro Historico. It's full of incredible architecture, as well as the Paseo de Montejo. You'll find out why Merida has the reputation of being the cultural capital of the Yucatan.
