Check your email: Marriott offering 20% off gift cards to targeted members
Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here.
Marriott is offering 20% off gift cards to targeted members through June 10 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
Targeted members received an email Monday morning with a one-time promo code and link to purchase an eGiftCard.
If you're one of the targeted members, you can purchase eGiftCards in increments between $25 and $2,000. For example, if you opt for the full $2,000, you will be charged $1,600.
You can redeem Marriott gift cards at most hotels in the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio for stays, dining, spa, golf and more. Marriott gift cards also never expire, and even if you purchase a gift card, you don't have to be the one staying at the hotel.
To take advantage of this promotion, head to this landing page and enter your desired gift card denomination. Then, follow the on-screen prompts to complete your purchase. Note that you will be asked for the promo code in your targeted email before you pay.
It's unclear if Marriott gift cards code as a hotel or travel expense in the eyes of your credit card, which could impact how you earn points. To be safe, consider paying for Marriott gift cards with a credit card that earns bonus points on all purchase categories. For example, the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card earns 2 miles per dollar on all purchases.
Bottom line
Marriott offered its gift cards at a 15% and 20% discount off and on throughout 2020.
The move to offer 20% off gift cards to targeted members comes as a surprise as national hotel occupancy rates are at an all-time post-2019 high. However, as mask mandates are being reimplemented, Marriott appears to be on a quest to secure some additional financial padding for the uncertainties that lie ahead.
