JetBlue launched another short-term promo today where you can get a 30% discount on award bookings until the end of today for travel May 2 – June 26, 2013.

The "Stop Dreaming. Start Redeeming" promo takes 30% off the usual point redemption rates for TrueBlue rewards – and remember, JetBlue is a transfer partner of Amex Membership Rewards points so if you're a few points short, you can always top off your account from there.

Before you try booking, just keep in mind that your travel must adhere to the following terms:

-Must purchase before 11:59 pm ET
-Flights must be on Monday-Thursday and Saturday
-Discount fares not valid May 23-26

I just put in a couple sample itineraries to test it out including this one for a long weekend in Puerto Rico in May from Thursday the 16 through Monday the 20.

The itinerary I wanted priced out at 27,000 points + $5.

The same itinerary in dollars would cost $566.40.

So the per-point value would be about 2.1 cents, well above the normal 1-1.5 cents you usually get.

The one drawback is that you don't actually see the normal rate versus the discount rate, so it always bears doing out the math for yourself to make sure you're getting a better rate than usual.

If you know your May-June travel plans and they fit within this time frame, then this could be a good use of TrueBlue points since they're semi-fixed value points anyway and you're not going to do better than 2 cents each under normal circumstances.

if you're considering transferring Amex Membership Rewards points into your TrueBlue account to top up your balance for a redemption, then just keep in mind the transfer ratio is an unfavorable 250 Amex points to 200 JetBlue points so ordinarily I wouldn't suggest it, though with the 30% discount you're getting on redemptions, this could be worth it to you. As always, do the math and make sure the numbers make sense for your specific redemption.
