Sharing positive things with a friend is always enjoyable, especially when you get rewarded for it. Which is why I was happy to hear that the personal American Express Starwood and Premier Rewards Gold cards now have "Refer A Friend" promotions where you can get 5,000 extra bonus points when someone you know signs up for one of these cards through your referral link and gets approved. (Note: some Platinum cardholders have reported getting referral bonus offers of up to 7,500 points, so if you have that card, be on the lookout when logged into your account as well).
Simply log into your account through this referral page, and the option should be there on the top left-hand corner, select the card that you wish to refer and click "Continue," enter your friend's name and email address and add additional names by clicking the "+" icon for a total of 11 referrals. This could be a targeted promotion so please let me know below if you had access to it in your account.
You can earn up to 55,000 extra points in a calendar year for referrals. Apart from hotel stays, remember that Starpoints can be very valuable thanks to great redemption options including transferring to airline partners (with bonuses), high-value redemption options like Cash & Points awards, elite status credit and more. You can also transfer them to 31 different airline partners, including those without other transfer partners like Amex Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards.
The current sign-up bonus for the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express is 25,000 Starpoints, after you use it to make $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months.
The Premier Rewards Gold card currently has a sign-up bonus of 50,000 Membership Rewards points when you spend $1,000 in 3 months if you are targeted through CreditCards.com's Card Match Tool. Otherwise, the public offer is 25,000 Membership Rewards points after you use it to make $2,000 in purchases within the first 3 months. This card also awards you with 15,000 bonus points after you spend $30,000 in purchases in one year.
