California and Portland to Maui from 15,000 Delta SkyMiles round trip
Are you looking to jet off to Maui in February or March?
There's another Hawaii deal. This time, round-trip award rates start at a bargain of 15,000 Delta SkyMiles, and there is widespread availability between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Maui's Kahului Airport (OGG).
We also found ample, similarly priced award space with at least two seats on connecting departures from Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC), San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Portland International Airport (PDX). This news was first reported by Frequent Miler.
Deal basics
Airline: Delta Air Lines.
Routes: Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Jose, California; and Portland, Oregon, to Maui.
How to book: Head to delta.com or book through the Delta app. Enter your city pairs and select "shop with miles."
Travel dates: February and March.
Book by: No end date, but we suggest booking promptly before the award space is gone.
Sample flights
On the following itineraries, most of the entry-level award prices are for basic economy. In addition to other restrictions, you can't change basic-economy tickets, and you won't know your assigned seat until check-in (and seats likely won't be together). Additionally, basic economy passengers are the last to board and can't upgrade their tickets.
If you want to travel in standard-economy class, expect to pay an additional 6,000 miles or so per person for the round-trip journey.
The following screenshots show round-trip award rates for one person. However, each date listed has at least two seats at the prices shown.

Maximize your purchase
Pay taxes and fees with The Platinum Card® from American Express (5 points per dollar on airfare booked directly with the airline or through Amex Travel, on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year), Chase Sapphire Reserve (3 points per dollar on travel) or Chase Sapphire Preferred Card (2 points per dollar on travel) for travel protections on the award flight.
Bottom line
Round-trip airfare to Hawaii for less than 20,000 miles on any program is uncommon. With basic economy cash rates between $219 and $300, you'll redeem your SkyMiles at around 1.6 cents apiece if you choose to book this deal. That's about 15% more than TPG's valuations of SkyMiles.
Regardless, short and medium-haul economy-class Delta deals can be a fantastic way to maximize your SkyMiles.
