Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency, such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you're using the American Express Platinum Card, you'll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia's courtesy cancellation if you're unable to get the time away from work or family.
One of TPG's favorite destinations is the city-state of Hong Kong. If you've got American Airlines, Japan Airlines or Alaska miles, you can fly there in style in Cathay Pacific's business class. Or, if you're just looking for a cheap flight to an awesome destination, you're also in luck. A handful of airlines are competing to take you (most of the way) around the world. And, if you're not a fan of connections, Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines and United all offer cheap nonstop options.
The cheapest travel dates are going to depend on the route, but you can likely find a deal between January and May — and you don't need any tricks to get these prices. Just search for the dates you want with Google Flights, then book on Orbitz, Expedia or directly with the airline itself. Also, since these are international trips on mainstream carriers — and not in Basic Economy — passengers will get their first checked bag free and a complimentary meal during the flight.
