If you've had your heart set on a sun-and-surf vacation, Alaska Airlines' latest sale can help make it a reality for you and a friend.

The carrier just dropped a buy-one, get-one-free promotion on nonstop flights to idyllic destinations in Hawaii like the Big Island, Kauai and Maui from several key West Coast cities in the airline's network.

If you buy one regularly priced economy fare, you can buy your travel companion's ticket for only the taxes and fees.

This deal requires using a discount code, which is "HIBOGO."

There is one interesting catch to this sale: To be able to take advantage of the BOGO prices, you have to book flights that depart between 5 p.m. and 2 a.m. local time. Several other restrictions apply, so be sure to read them before booking.

Deal basics

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINTS GUY

This is a pretty solid deal, but you will need to book by midnight Wednesday. It's not valid on first class, sadly.

Here's how Alaska suggests you book: In the booking form, enter your departure and arrival cities, dates, and at least two travelers. Enter "HIBOGO" into the discount code field, and then click "Find flights" to start your search.

Restrictions:

  • Travel is valid from Aug. 10 to Nov. 19.
  • Discount code is valid for flights departing between 5 p.m. and 2 a.m.
  • Book by July 16 at 11:59 p.m. PDT.
  • Check specific destinations for other travel restrictions.

Some of the deals

Let's look at a few examples we found. This itinerary from SEA to OGG in early September will cost just $410.80 for two round-trip tickets.

Alaska BOGO pricing. ALASKA AIRLINES

If you live in Southern California, you and a friend can fly nonstop out of SAN to HNL in late September for a grand total of $365.80 for two round-trip tickets.

A pair of round-trip tickets from PDX to OGG is also available for $390.80. We saw good availability for this route at these low prices in September and October.

Bottom line

The evening-flights restriction curtails flexibility a bit, but you can't beat the savings offered in this BOGO deal.

It's not every day you can basically get half off a trip to Hawaii (assuming you and your travel friend decide to split the overall cost of the pair of tickets).

Remember, you have until midnight Wednesday to book your travel.
