The Platinum Card® from American Express offers travelers a slew of incredible perks, ranging from statement credits to status upgrades to lounge benefits. This results in one of the best collections of membership perks of any card out there for its notably steep $895 annual fee (see rates and fees).

One of the main benefits for cardmembers is a biannual $300 (up to $600 per calendar year) statement credit on prepaid stays at hotels that are part of American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection. The Hotel Collection requires a minimum two-night stay to use the credit. The biannual $300 (up to $600 per calendar year) statement credit can now also be found on The Business Platinum Card® from American Express. New Business Platinum applicants can earn 200,000 bonus points after spending $20,000 on eligible purchases within the first three months of card membership.

In terms of how it works, cardholders need to book stays at the included properties through American Express Travel and pay with their Amex Platinum Card or Amex Business Platinum Card. Once the statement credit comes through, cardholders might even spend a night for half off (and, in some cases, close to nothing at all).

From Bali, Indonesia, to Palm Beach, Florida, there are dozens of noteworthy hotels with availability between $150 and $550 per night in the American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection portfolios.

Note that room costs may change at any time and can vary depending on the time of year you'll be staying, so make sure to check your chosen dates through Amex Travel.

Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts benefits

It's especially appealing to book through Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts thanks to all the standard perks that get added onto reservations for Amex Platinum, Business Platinum and The Centurion Card from American Express cardmembers, including the following (regardless of the length of your stay):

  • Room upgrade upon arrival, when available at check-in (properties may exclude some room types, and some may only give you a room with a better view)
  • Experience credit valued at $100, usually consisting of a property, dining or spa credit
  • Complimentary daily breakfast for two people
  • Guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout
  • Noon check-in, when available
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi*

*When a property includes Wi-Fi in a mandatory resort fee, you'll receive a daily credit equal to the property's standard Wi-Fi cost.

Perks through The Hotel Collection

The perks cardholders get through The Hotel Collection properties are fewer but still notable:

  • Upgrades based on availability at check-in
  • Experience credit valued at $100, usually consisting of a property, dining or spa credit
  • Noon check-in, when available
  • Late checkout, when available

Note that you must book a minimum two-night stay through The Hotel Collection, but Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings can be for a single night.

The Platinum Card from American Express: Find out your offer. You may be eligible for as high as 175,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $8,000 on eligible purchases in your first six months of card membership. Welcome offers vary, and you may not be eligible for an offer.

Hotels to book with your Amex Platinum credit

While there are many hotels you can book in the Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection portfolios, some provide significant discounts and cost next to nothing once you tack on the annual Amex Platinum hotel statement credit. You might even end up ahead once you add in the $100 experience or property credits that come with all of the below stays.

The St. Regis Langkawi

If you're looking to escape the more touristed Southeast Asian destinations, Langkawi in Malaysia offers the same spectacular experience without the crowds — and often with better accommodation prices.

With average rates of $400 per night, your statement and experience credits can nearly cover a night's stay at The St. Regis Langkawi. Enjoy the white sand beach fronting the property, take a dip in the infinity pool or indulge in the spa or a Malay cooking class. Local attractions like Gunung Raya Mountain and Black Sand Beach are a short hop away.

TPG tip: Use your experience credit to enjoy a spread of Malay and Asian fusion cuisine at the resort's famed restaurant, Kayuputi.

Palacio del Inka, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Cusco

Heady times await in the vertiginous city of Cusco, Peru, perched in the Andes at over 11,000 feet. Stay in the heart of the city's historic center, right across from the Temple of the Sun, at Palacio del Inka, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Cusco, where TPG has found average room rates for around $430 per night.

The hotel occupies a mansion that's roughly 500 years old and houses hand-carved furnishings, Latin American artwork (including pre-Inca pieces) and antiques.

These create a real sense of place alongside the creature comforts one craves from a luxury hotel. Rooms are painted rich reds and ochers and decorated with ceramics and tiles, adding to the hotel's ambience.

TPG tip: Use your experience credit to enjoy a thermal circuit or a hydromassage at the on-site spa.

PGA National Resort

Spend some time in the South Florida sun playing golf or just relaxing poolside when you check in to the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, where you can take your pick of six championship golf courses for play.

Rooms average around $400 a night but can often be found for far less, particularly midweek.

The resort's spa offers unique ocean-inspired treatments like seafoam body wraps. You're spoiled for pools to lounge by here, too, with three in the mix.

TPG tip: Use your experience credit for dinner at the retro-inspired Birdie's Diner.

Park Hyatt Istanbul — Macka Palas

If you're keen on visiting the city located on two continents, the Park Hyatt Istanbul is a top luxury property. With average prices hovering around $350 a night and some nights as low as $299, this can be a great property at which to use your Amex Platinum hotel credit.

The hotel is in the famed Nisantasi neighborhood, where you'll find a street lined with designer brands such as Hermes and Rolex, while on the other side, you're flanked by beautiful cafes and just a short walk from the Bosphorus.

TPG tip: Use the experience credit at the spa for a traditional Turkish hammam or at the famed restaurant Nusr-et within the property.

Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai

ALEX JEFFRIES/MANDARIN ORIENTAL

On average, we found nightly rates at Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai to be in the low $400s — not bad considering a Mandarin Oriental property in Europe or East Asia can be three to four times as much.

The hotel is on Jumeira Beach, a short hop away from the crowds and allure of downtown Dubai, which hosts the Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa. The property has its own private beach, several pools and entertainment areas for couples and families alike.

TPG tip: Use the experience credit to enjoy one of the nine dining or cafe outlets located on the property.

The Ritz-Carlton, Bali

TPG recently found rates in the Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts collection for around the $300 mark for junior suites at The Ritz-Carlton, Bali, where cliffside villas with private pools overlook the ocean in Nusa Dua. It's a splurge, to be sure, but there are many things to love at this resort.

THE RITZ-CARLTON BALI

If you do just one thing on-site, soak in the spa's five hydrotherapy stations within a tropical greenhouse setting.

TPG tip: Use your experience credit at the hotel's clifftop Indonesian restaurant and spa.

Mandarin Oriental, Taipei

This Taiwanese Mandarin Oriental outpost offers some of bustling Taipei's most luxurious accommodations. We've seen rates as low as $346 a night, so paying $46 for a night (after using the hotel credit) is quite the steal — and that's before you factor in the $100 property credit.

Taipei has a few top-tier properties, but with a brand like Mandarin Oriental, you can't go wrong. Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts benefits include a room upgrade (based on availability), and the property's club rooms are quite spacious if you can score one.

TPG tip: Use the property credit at the on-site spa, which has won the praise of locals and visiting guests.

Casa de Campo Resort & Villas

The Dominican Republic makes for one of the more accessible Caribbean getaways. And if you're into golfing, you can leave the Punta Cana crowds behind with a stay at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, an Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts property along the island's south coast, home to three award-winning courses.

Note that renovations recently began on the golf courses; they will be inaccessible through the end of 2025 (subject to change).

We found nights for under $570 in superior casitas and for as little as $256 for the lowest-category room. The three Pete Dye-designed golf courses make Casa de Campo a runaway favorite with the golf crowd, and there is also an equestrian center and an on-site marina where you can head out on deep-sea fishing excursions.

TPG tip: You can receive a complimentary personal golf cart for cruising the resort's vast and rolling grounds.

Hotel William Gray

Part of The Hotel Collection, the Hotel William Gray in Montreal shows rates around the $345 mark and makes for an elegant stay right near the Place Jacques-Cartier and the Old Port of Montreal.

The rooftop bar, Terrasse William Gray, has fab views of the St. Lawrence River and heaters that switch on when the temperatures drop.

TPG tip: Use your experience credit to access Spa William Gray facilities, which require an additional fee. Facilities include a hot and cold thermal experience with a Himalayan salt room, a Finnish sauna, experiential showers, a cold room, an herbal sauna and a seasonal outdoor pool.

Hotel Cafe Royal, London

Hotel Cafe Royal is in the heart of London, located right on Piccadilly Circus, one of London's busiest intersections and a famed site for tourists.

During offseason months, the average price per night for a room hovers around $600. At this property in the heart of London, you'll enjoy upscale amenities like a full-service spa, a fantastic bar and spacious rooms.

TPG tip: It may be worth splurging on a higher-category room or suite, as they come with a chauffeur who will take you around London in a private luxury car.

Bottom line

The Amex Platinum Card and the Amex Business Platinum Card both now offer a wide range of benefits, and the annual up-to-$600 statement credit per calendar year (up to $300 biannually) toward American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection stays is one of the easiest ways for cardmembers to recoup money.

In addition to the statement credit, the hotel booking includes an upgrade, breakfast and property credit, bringing down the cost of your stay while you enjoy a luxury property.
