James Oliver Cury was born and raised in Manhattan, and has lived in San Francisco, Los Angeles, London, and Brooklyn. He has written about foreign cultures--and flavors--as a food writer for Time Out New York, and spent many years judging restaurants and cooking competitions as executive editor of Epicurious.com. He’s visited small wineries in Tuscany and Piedmont, sampled rare African fruit on safari in Cape Town, climbed up waterfalls in the Dominican Republic, consumed way too much vodka in Warsaw, and actually enjoyed haggis at a Scottish castle—bagpipes blaring in the background.
