The Virgin Group runs two loyalty programs that look different on the surface but work together behind the scenes — and once you link them, you'll be able to move your Virgin points seamlessly between both accounts.

One focuses more on flights and elite status, the other more on everyday earnings and nonflight rewards.

Read on to learn how Virgin Atlantic's Flying Club program and Virgin Red fit together, how they significantly overlap, and how easy it is to earn Virgin points.

What is Virgin Atlantic Flying Club?

Flying Club is Virgin Atlantic’s loyalty program. Members earn redeemable Virgin points (and tier points toward elite status) on paid Virgin Atlantic flights and on partner flights, including with SkyTeam partners, by adding their Flying Club membership number to their booking in advance of their flight.

You can also earn Virgin points via Flying Club through:

  • Hotels: You can earn Virgin points by booking stays with Virgin Hotels, Virgin Limited Edition, Marriott, Best Western, Hilton, Kaligo, IHG, Rocketmiles and Hyatt.
  • Car rental partners: Virgin Atlantic partners with Avis, Alamo, Enterprise, National and Sixt.
  • Virgin Trains Ticketing: Earn points for train trips across Great Britain.
  • Heathrow Rewards: You can earn points for shopping or parking at London's Heathrow Airport (LHR) and transfer them to Flying Club.
  • Shops Away: Earn Virgin points when you choose to shop at over 1,000 retailers through Virgin Atlantic's shopping portal.

Elite status is also offered in the Flying Club program at three tiers: Red (entry), Silver and Gold, with SkyTeam alliance recognition at the upper levels.

You can search and book Virgin Atlantic award seats online through Flying Club, as well as redeem Virgin points for seat upgrades on Virgin Atlantic cash fares. You can also redeem Virgin points for partner flights, including on Delta Air Lines, by booking through Flying Club.

Additionally, you can use your Virgin points for select nonflying activities, such as Virgin Voyages cruises, Virgin Hotels stays and Eurostar train vouchers, among others.

What is Virgin Red?

Virgin Red is Virgin's groupwide rewards club, offering numerous earning and redemption opportunities that extend well beyond travel, and it also utilizes Virgin points as its loyalty currency.

There are no status levels in Virgin Red.

While some of the same earning and redeeming partners available through Flying Club are also available through Virgin Red, the Virgin Red platform focuses less on flying and more on its substantial network of online shopping partners, Virgin Voyages cruises, gift vouchers and experiences.

You may be surprised at just how many places you can earn and redeem Virgin points through Virgin Red.

If you don't fancy flying, or perhaps can't find any available seats at the redemption rates you want to pay, you can find lots of interesting ways to redeem Virgin points through Virgin Red.

Note that for most nontravel redemptions, you will receive a redemption value of approximately 0.67 cents per Virgin point, which is lower than our December 2025 valuation of 1.3 cents per Virgin point.

You'll generally get better value from your Virgin points by redeeming them for flights than for nontravel experiences, but it's nice to have options.

How to link your Flying Club and Red accounts

Create both a Flying Club and Red account online (or through each program's app) if you don’t already have them, using the same email address, name and date of birth for both. Then, open the Virgin Red app or website, navigate to your account details and select the option to link your accounts.

Sign in with your Flying Club details (you'll have a Flying Club account number, while Red just shows your email address) and ensure your personal information matches across both profiles.

Once linked, your Virgin points will be displayed as a combined balance in each program, regardless of which platform you earned them through.

There’s nothing else to manage; you’ll earn and redeem in a single Virgin points balance without shuffling points back and forth.

Virgin points are worth the same through Flying Club and Red, so there's no need to choose one over the other; Flying Club will offer more flight redemption options, while Red offers more "on the ground" nontravel experiences.

How to earn Virgin points

It's very easy to earn Virgin points as Flying Club and/or Red partner with every transferable rewards currency. You can transfer points from the following rewards programs to Flying Club:

You can transfer rewards from the following programs to Virgin Red:

  • Bilt Rewards (points transfer at a 1:1 ratio)
  • Capital One (miles transfer at a 1:1 ratio)
  • Citi ThankYou Rewards (points transfer at a 1:1 ratio)
  • Wells Fargo Rewards (points transfer at a 1:1 ratio)

Be on the lookout for transfer bonuses, which are regularly offered by both Flying Club and Red.

Bottom line

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and Virgin Red aren’t competing programs — they’re two parts of the same Virgin points ecosystem with significant overlap and rewards that are easy to earn and redeem.

Flying Club is where you earn status and book flights with cash or points (including with SkyTeam partners), while Virgin Red focuses more on everyday earning and nonflight rewards like shopping, hotels and nontravel experiences.

Once you link accounts, you’ll see a single Virgin points balance in both, allowing you to earn wherever you prefer to book and redeem wherever your points go furthest.
