Discover just announced a new promotion offering double cash back on all your purchases in the first year with the Discover it card when you apply between June 1 and July 31. Similarly, the Discover it Miles card has been offering double cash back in the first year for a few months, making these both great options to consider if you’re looking for a cash-back card.

Update: Several readers have had success enrolling their existing cards by calling Discover, so if you already have a Discover it card, it definitely makes sense to call in to see if you’re eligible for this promotion.

With the double miles offers, these cards become incredibly lucrative for the first year. With the Discover it card, you’ll earn 2% back (instead of the standard 1%) on all everyday purchases, and 10% back (instead of 5%) on purchases in the rotating bonus categories, which currently includes restaurants and movies (home improvement stores, department stores and Amazon are coming in July).

With the Discover it Miles card, you’ll earn 3% back the first year (instead of the standard 1.5%), which can be redeemed for travel purchases on your statement or even a direct deposit to your bank account.

My Thoughts

When it comes to major credit card issuers, most people think of Amex and Chase, but recently, Discover has really been upping its game with these new offers. If you’re looking to maximize with cash-back cards, then you may want to consider these cards. Getting 10% back in certain categories is hard to beat, so if you’re planning to spend within those rolling bonus categories, you can really get a great return with the Discover it card.
