Westin rolls out the next generation of the Heavenly Bed
One of the top reasons Marriott's Westin brand has a loyal following just got a glow-up.
The Heavenly Bed found in every Westin Hotels & Resorts guest room and suite has a next-generation model rolling out this week. The bed's refreshed look includes a plush-top mattress featuring temperature-regulating, gel-infused memory foam.
The linens are now made from hypoallergenic materials, and the new duvet is designed to keep guests cool for a better night's sleep. The Heavenly Bed's all-white aesthetic of the past was tweaked to now include a charcoal blanket and piping on pillows to give a refined, residential vibe.
Brian Povinelli, senior vice president and global head of marketing and brand at Marriott International, said in a statement:
"In a culture that has long glorified busyness and productivity, Westin knows that a good night's sleep is paramount to guests' overall well-being, which is why our iconic Heavenly Bed has resonated with travelers for decades. Understanding the devoted fanbase the legacy bed has garnered over the years; our goal was to listen and carefully review every aspect of the guest and associate experience, ensuring each update was both intentional and impactful. We are confident that it will exceed the expectations of both loyal and future Westin guests across the globe and again raise the bar for the comfort of our guests."

Westin's Heavenly Bed has been widely seen in the industry as a game changer in hotel bedding since its 1999 debut. Modeled after Westin's then-parent company Starwood Hotels & Resorts CEO Barry Sternlicht's bed at home, the Heavenly Bed at launch wowed guests with a strict formula: pillow-top mattress, white down blanket, three crisp white sheets, a white comforter and duvet, and five white pillows.
Photos of the next generation of the Heavenly Bed show only four pillows, but they're fluffy and should still do the trick.
While the Heavenly Bed boosted Westin's profile with travelers, it also pressured the broader hotel industry to do better on the bedding front. Remember those icky polyester blankets that used to be prevalent on hotel beds? Yeah, I'm trying to forget that, too. But think about how clean white linens and more comfortable mattresses are today's standard. You can thank Westin for that.
"The motive in the hotel business was to cut corners on the beds, and we all remember those crazy earth tone polyester bedspreads of old," Sternlicht said in 2004 in a Starwood announcement for the bed's fifth anniversary. "Westin's Heavenly Bed was the first of many Starwood innovations that gave the industry a much needed wake up call and helped our brands differentiate themselves in a powerful way."
The Heavenly Bed was more than just a win for Westin at the property level. It introduced a new line of business for the brand: at-home sales.
Since the bed's 1999 launch, more than 500,000 Heavenly Beds have been sold from the Westin Store online. Delta Air Lines even turned to the brand for a while for its premium cabin bedding. And the bed is also offered at home decor retailers like Pottery Barn.
You can now buy the new Heavenly Bed online at the Westin Store, where mattress prices start at $1,645 or 411,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.

Multiple ways to win a new Heavenly Bed
While you can buy a Heavenly Bed, there are also ways to win one through Marriott and Westin.
Westin's Move Well to Sleep Well with Strava campaign runs through the end of May and invites U.S.-based users of the Strava fitness platform to complete 600 minutes of activity throughout May to be entered into a competition for one of 10 new Heavenly Beds.
Additionally, you can enter the Sleep Well at Home with the Westin Store sweepstakes through July 31 for a chance to win a new Heavenly Bed or a two-night stay at a Westin hotel.
Sweet dreams ... and may sweet victory be yours in the competition.
