Andaz Mayakoba is closing for yearlong renovations starting in March
Bad news for Hyatt loyalists hoping to bask in the sun of Mexico's Riviera Maya at the Andaz Mayakoba this year: The popular hotel will close for an extensive renovation in just a few months.
In a statement to TPG, Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya general manager David Cayuela said:
"We can confirm that Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya will undergo a transformative renovation starting in March 2025, expected to conclude by the end of the year. The resort will temporarily suspend operations on Sunday, March 2, 2025, to eliminate any disruption or impact to the guest experience.
"The hotel-wide renovations will include expansion of the hotel's suite inventory, a redesigned lobby, a renovated spa with indoor and outdoor wellness spaces, refreshed food and beverage offerings, and an upgrade to meeting and event spaces.
"Guests or World of Hyatt members with questions regarding their upcoming stay may call 888-848-9496 (Americas) or 1-402-952-1131 (International)."
Since opening back in 2016, the Hyatt resort has been a TPG favorite over the years. But it makes sense that the resort is due for a refresh ahead of its 10-year anniversary to make sure it's in tip-top shape, especially considering that the Mayakoba Resort complex itself offers a healthy set of competitors for travelers to choose from, including properties affiliated with Fairmont, Rosewood and Banyan Tree.
Of course, the internet ran rife with speculation that the remodel could be a sign of a potential reflagging, possibly into Hyatt's luxury Alila brand. As of now, there has been no official announcement of a reflagging.
Most importantly, guests with reservations during the closing period should call the numbers listed above ASAP to work with Hyatt to rebook at another property or, if possible, cancel. Some Hyatt members and travel advisers have shared in public forums that Hyatt has offered to rebook at nearby Hyatt resorts, including some all-inclusive properties.
