If you currently hold elite status with American Airlines AAdvantage, Delta Air Lines or Japan Airlines (JAL), listen up.

ANA Mileage Club now offers a rare status match opportunity for elite status holders of several competing airlines. Depending on your current elite status, ANA will match you to either entry-level Bronze status or mid-tier Platinum status.

By qualifying for Platinum, you'll also earn Star Alliance Gold status, which gets you lounge access whenever traveling on a Star Alliance flight (including domestic United flights) and other useful perks. Best of all, ANA will match your status outright without requiring you to take any flights.

Here's everything you need to know to take advantage.

Although there are just three competing programs listed, ANA notes the following:

"Elite status members of other airline frequent flyer programs not listed above may submit an application form. Acceptance of such applications for the AMC Status Match is at ANA's sole discretion."

The one restriction is that ANA will not match elite status from other Star Alliance airlines, such as United. That's because matches are intended to draw customers from competing airlines and programs, not their existing partners.

Full details are available at ANA's dedicated landing page for the promotion.

How to request a status match

To take advantage of this offer, you will need to:

  • Sign up as a member of ANA Mileage Club.
  • Complete the status match application at this link (SurveyMonkey link). This includes submitting a photo of your existing elite status with the competing program, which shows your name, loyalty number, status level and expiration date.
  • Download the ANA Mileage Club app.

The deadline to take advantage of this offer is Sept. 28, 2022. If accepted, you'll enjoy your upgraded status through March 31, 2023. There is no fee to participate.

According to ANA, if accepted, your account will be updated to reflect your new status within 14 business days of submitting your application. No confirmation email will be sent, so you'll need to log in to your account through the ANA website or app to verify your status.

Benefits of ANA elite status

Here's a quick look at the benefits you can expect as an ANA Mileage Club elite member and their usual qualification requirements.

Bronze

Bronze is ANA’s entry-level status tier. It normally requires earning 30,000 Premium Points in a year, 15,000 of which must be on ANA Group-operated flights. You’ll enjoy the following benefits with Bronze status:

  • Early reservations for domestic flights in Japan
  • Premium Member Service Desk
  • Free checked luggage on all flights
  • Free advanced seat reservations
  • Lounge access for a fee
  • Priority baggage and check-in
  • Star Alliance Silver benefits

Platinum

ANA’s mid-tier Platinum status requires earning 50,000 Premium Points in a single calendar year, 25,000 of which must be on ANA Group-operated flights. This status tier includes all Bronze benefits as well as the following:

  • Up to 105% bonus Mileage Club miles on flights
  • Lounge access on all ANA Group and Star Alliance flights (including domestic United flights)
  • Priority security
  • Priority reservations for international award tickets and upgrades

  • ANA Upgrade Points

Bottom line

Although you have several months to take advantage of this offer, your status will be valid through March 2023 regardless of when you apply, so the sooner you enroll, the longer you get to enjoy the benefits. And while you'll need to credit your flights to ANA in order to reap the benefits of your status, ANA Mileage Club miles can be quite valuable, thanks to the program's many sweet spots.
