Quick summary

If you're hungry or in need of a last-minute gift for a loved one, you might want to log in to DoorDash right now.

As part of the delivery service's ongoing Summer of DashPass promotion, you can log some pretty serious savings — and we're not just talking about a quick takeout meal.

There are many elevated savings opportunities right now for what you might consider to be typical DoorDash purchases: a free milkshake on orders of $20 or more at Baskin-Robbins through Aug. 17, or $5 off on orders of $30 or more from Walgreens.

What really caught our eye, though, are the opportunities to save $50 on shipping orders from some pretty notable food vendors, as well as on flower shipments.

Generally, the promotion, which is running through Aug. 24 with a number of these companies, includes $50 off orders for DashPass members when they spend $69.99 or more.

Some TPG staffers have had luck stacking these savings with DoorDash credits they've earned from certain Chase credit cards (more on that in a moment).

Two of the offers include $50 off orders of $69.99 or more at Barbecue at Home or Chicago Steak Company. Both companies will package their product and ship it to you at no additional shipping cost thanks to your DashPass membership.

Take Barbecue at Home, for instance. The company delivers a whole range of premium barbecue and side dishes for you to cook at home. Ordinarily, a two-pound order of the company's pork belly would cost $85.98 once factoring in fees and estimated tax.

Once you add the $50-off benefit — either by clicking on it or typing in the promo code (SUMMER in this case, but check for the specific vendor) — the price goes down significantly.

Final total after applying the discount: $35.98.

I could also save $50 on a shipment of sunflowers from BloomsyBox (something I should actually consider since it's my wife's birthday this week).

For any DoorDash user with a sweet tooth: A signature eight-pack of some pretty high-end cookies from Levain Bakery can cost just $25 instead of $75.

You can maximize your savings with the right credit card. Keep in mind that both the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve come with a complimentary DashPass membership (when you activate by Dec. 31, 2024); this saves you $9.99 for the membership. It also earns you $0 deliveries and other discounts.

Additionally, Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders get monthly $5 DoorDash in-app credits through December 2024. So, cardholders could reach $55 in savings on the purchase (not counting the complimentary DashPass membership) if they tap into their monthly credits for this purchase.

Bottom line

DoorDash's Summer of DashPass promotion, which began in late July, runs through Aug. 24. You have another nine days to take advantage of some significant savings opportunities. If you've been considering one of the cards that give you DashPass for free, this could be an opportune time to sign up, too.
