Why choose AmaWaterways for your fall or winter river cruise
AMAWATERWAYS
In any season, AmaWaterways aims to give river cruisers an experience that’s a cut above its competitors.
River ships on European waterways are typically similar in size because they must fit through narrow locks and under low bridges. AmaWaterways, however, will carry fewer guests on its ships, averaging 156 passengers per cruise (compared with 190 on competitor cruise lines).
With such intimate numbers, you will quickly meet your shipmates and form friendships. By the last night, everyone on board will be recognizable and feel like family.
AmaWaterways’ ships might be compact, but they offer a variety of accommodations to fit your preferences and budget. Travelers who don’t spend much time in their rooms should have an affordable option with cozy river-view rooms. Cruisers who want only the best can select luxurious suites with separate living and sleeping spaces. Many guests enjoy the line’s signature twin-balcony rooms; these position a conversation nook with a French balcony next to a traditional veranda with outdoor seating — optimized for scenic cruising rain or shine.
When you’re not snacking on German sausages or French crepes on land, you’ll find plenty of fine dining on board. AmaWaterways was the first river cruise line to be a member of La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, a prestigious gastronomic society dedicated to fine cuisine. The line’s locally sourced dishes take inspiration from the region each ship cruises, so you can expect Wiener schnitzel in Austria and pasteis de nata in Portugal.
AmaWaterways’ congenial Main Restaurant is the dining hub on each ship, but it’s not the only option. For a quick, casual breakfast or lunch on select ships, you can enjoy a light meal from a glass-enclosed venue adjacent to the Main Lounge while you take in the scenic river views. Or, for a leisurely, fine dining experience, sign up for the decadent, yet always complimentary, Chef’s Table experience in its own intimate and airy venue. Tea, tapas and late-night snacks are available for anyone who skipped a meal or needs something extra to tide them over; all you need to do is ask.
And don’t think a four-deck ship will lack in amenities. AmaWaterways ships offer everything you need, including cozy lounges and libraries, a fitness room, a massage room and hair salon, and a large Sun Deck on its top level.
You can enjoy these on your own or attend each day’s special programming. Wellness Hosts lead an array of onboard stretching and fitness classes each morning. The ship’s entertainers sing and play during the daily Sip & Sail, when drinks are on the house; they also lead arts and crafts activities and trivia contests and get the party started each evening.
For a special treat, AmaWaterways invites local musicians and dancers to come aboard and share cultural performances with the line’s passengers.
On land, AmaWaterways offers multiple (up to eight) complimentary excursions each day, with three activity levels to choose from (gentle, regular and active), as well as hiking, biking and culinary tour choices. Your trip’s Cruise Manager will help you choose the right tour, give you the best information for how to spend free time off the ship and generally take care of you, both during precruise and postcruise experiences and on the river cruise.
AmaWaterways’ fall and winter cruises offer great value
AMAWATERWAYS
Late fall is one of the best times to travel if you’re looking to stretch your vacation dollars further. November cruises typically have some of the lowest starting fares of the year. Your precruise flights will also cost less compared to flights during busier travel times, giving you extra room in your travel budget to spend on souvenirs or a special dinner in town.
AmaWaterways river cruises also offer great value because your base fare includes so much. Nearly every excursion choice is complimentary, so you won’t bust your budget seeing the best of each city or town visited. Small groups and great guides enhance your enjoyment of each destination.
All meals are included on board, whether a multicourse Chef’s Table experience or afternoon or late-night snacks. Plus, sparkling wine and fresh juices at breakfast and unlimited wine, beer and soft drinks at lunch and dinner are complimentary.
You won’t rack up too high of a bar bill because wine, beer and select liquors and cocktails are on the house during the daily Sip & Sail cocktail hour. Prices are reasonable if you want to kick back with an afternoon glass of wine or an evening nightcap.
Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi also makes it easy to stay in touch with friends and family at home — or post your best vacation photos online.
Reserve select 2025 and 2026 river cruises by June 30, and AmaWaterways will add a two- to four-night land experience before or after your cruise at no extra cost. More than 15 land packages are available. For example, reserve an Essence of Burgundy & Provence river cruise and visit the French Riviera with stops in Aix-en-Provence, Nice and Eze, France, plus Monaco. Or, add a tour of Spain’s Basque Country to your Taste of Bordeaux sailing to explore Guernica, Bilbao and San Sebastián.
AmaWaterways will take good care of you during your off-the-ship tour, housing you in four- or five-star hotels in the heart of the city. The package includes daily breakfasts, transfers and luggage service between your hotel and the ship, as well as guided tours or excursions during the land tour.
Plus, your Cruise Manager will start the journey with you, helping you to make dinner reservations or schedule your free time — and then continue on to the ship with you. By the time you board, you’ll know many of your shipmates and can start your vacation feeling comfortable and rested from your travels.
When you think about taking a river cruise, you might imagine yourself traveling in spring or summer. But the fall and winter months have their own appeal, with unique seasonal events and a value proposition that can’t be beat.
Whether you wish to raise a glass to the year’s new wines or score the perfect holiday gifts at Christmas markets throughout Europe, AmaWaterways has a river cruise itinerary that will get you there. Book your vacation soon for the best value, and discover how easy AmaWaterways makes it to enjoy the best that Europe has to offer.
