Why the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card Is a Great Pick for Golf Fans

Golfing is a hobby for some, and a lifestyle for others. Regardless of your enthusiasm for the sport, it can get expensive quickly. And when expenses are high, there's an opportunity for lots of points and miles to be earned.

Unfortunately, golf perks among credit cards have been decreasing in recent years. For instance, the Citi Prestige had 3 free rounds of golf for card holders, but this perk was eliminated in July 2017. However, there is one card that still reigns supreme as the best credit card for golfers.

Chase Sapphire (both the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card and the Chase Sapphire Reserve) is the official card of the PGA of America and the PGA Championship, and it comes with some cool perks if you're an avid golf tournament attendee.

As a card holder, you can get special access to select events through the Ultimate Rewards travel portal. These include:

  • Daily PGA Championship grounds tickets (for 3,800 points or $38)
  • Packages to the Chase Sapphire Hospitality Chalet — located on Hole #18, with complimentary food and drink plus access to a welcome reception
  • Hotel and Chalet weekend packages

Card members also get access to the Chase Sapphire Cardmember Club at the PGA Championship. This club has many airport lounge-like features, and also comes with experiences like Q&A sessions with pro golfers, celebrity chef demonstrations and access to a golf simulator. There's complimentary water, a cash bar and premium food available for purchase.

The card earns 2 points per dollar on travel and dining expenses which is an incredible return. And you will get the full profile of perks including trip insurance, trip delay interruption reimbursement, lost luggage reimbursement, rental car insurance, purchase protection, extended warranty and more.

On top of that, this card currently has a sign-up bonus of 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months. These 80,000 points can be transferred to a large amount of travel partners including British Airways, Singapore Airways, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines and more.

Bottom Line

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is the only card I would recommend for golfers. Other cards may have some small incentives for golfers, but this will take your golf experience from amateur to pro. No guarantee that it will improve your golf game, though.
