Overview

If your business does a lot of spending, you can probably justify spending the $375 annual fee that’s associated with the American Express Business Gold card. This card allows you to earn points in the top two categories in which you spend the most each billing cycle. If you max out the categories each year, you could walk away with 600,000 Membership Rewards points annually. Amex has several airline and hotel partners you can transfer points to and often offers limited-time transfer bonuses that you can take advantage of to increase the value of existing points. Who is this card good for?

The American Express Business Gold card is great for larger businesses with higher overhead costs that want to maximize their Membership Rewards points in business-specific categories. Smaller businesses may have trouble racking up enough expenses to make this card worthwhile.

Earning rewards

Cardholders will earn 4 points per dollar on their top two spending categories each billing cycle. The categories that will count towards earning these points are transit purchases, U.S. purchases for online, TV and radio advertising, monthly wireless phone service charges made directly from U.S. service providers, purchases at U.S. gas stations, U.S. restaurants and purchases from U.S. electronic goods retailers and cloud system providers.
