Quick summary

Instagram remains a leading platform for travelers to share photos, with over 500 million monthly users and 95 million daily posts.
The app released data highlighting the most geotagged cities, locations and hotels of 2016, reflecting global travel trends.
Top cities included New York, London and Moscow, while Disney and Universal theme parks led among locations.
Popular hotels for Instagram posts ranged from major Las Vegas resorts to international properties in Dubai and Macau.

What to consider

The rankings are based on geotagged posts from 2016, so trends may have shifted in subsequent years.
Data reflects Instagram's global user base and may not represent all travelers' preferences.
Lists include both urban destinations and entertainment venues, offering a broad view of popular spots.

What you'll miss from the article

A detailed breakdown of the top 10 cities, locations and hotels that dominated Instagram posts in 2016.

Generated by AI with support from our editorial team.

Instagram has quickly become many travelers' go-to app for sharing photos from their adventures. In fact, it's become so popular that it's sparked the great debate: When does sharing your vacation photos become too much? No matter where you stand on that issue, there's no doubt that Instagram has completely changed how we share our travel experiences.

Now that the app has more than 500 million monthly users and hosts more than 95 million photo or video posts per day, it's no shock that the company has been keeping track of its users' data. In its recent report of its most popular users (Selena Gomez; 103 million followers), most-used emoji (the red heart), most Instagrammed day of the year (October 31, 2016) and more, the company also shared its most popular cities, locations and hotels for the year.
