British Airways offers a fantastic ongoing fare discount to AARP members, with $400 off any business or first-class flight that you can book through the British Airways site — even those operated by Oneworld partners, such as American Airlines and Iberia. The best part? Anyone can join AARP for just $16 per year.
You need to be departing from the US in order to take advantage of the promotional pricing, and you must book a round-trip flight. Other than that, the terms are very flexible, so you should be able to take advantage on most Oneworld bookings from the US to Europe, and even some flights to other continents as well. Note that if you book an American flight through BA, you won’t be able to apply systemwide upgrades.
As you can see above, a round-trip OpenSkies business-class fare goes is going for $2,287 at the end of December.
If you log in through AARP, however, the fare is just $1,887. You can also stack other bonuses, such as the $773 Avios discount available through the end of today or the 10% “CARDOFFERU” discount available when you’re flying British Airways or OpenSkies in both directions and paying with a Visa card.
Here are the terms from AARP:
The exclusive discounts as indicated on this offer page are available online to AARP members only via the dedicated link on this page when booking a round-trip through fare (round-trip flights with connection to final destination, separate tickets do not qualify for discount) from select US gateways to UK and beyond. Customer must be an AARP member or must travel with an AARP member to be eligible for this exclusive offer. The exclusive discounts are based on round-trip purchase off any published retail World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (Premium economy), Club World (business class) or First fares on ba.com via exclusive link, valid for outbound travel through March 31, 2017 on British Airways and British Airways codeshare services operated by American Airlines and on British Airways codeshare services operated by Iberia only. American Airlines and American Eagle flights with a BA flight numbers that connect to BA operated, AA operated with BA flight numbers and IB operated with BA flight numbers transatlantic flights are permitted. Additional restrictions may apply.
As per the terms above, AARP members must be traveling in order to get the discount, though companions are eligible, too. Realistically, though, the $400 discount is available to anyone logged into an AARP account — after you log in, passenger names aren’t validated based on AARP membership.
Discounts are available as follows:
– $65 off for travel in World Traveller (economy)
– $130 off for travel in World Traveller Plus (premium economy)
– $400 off for travel in Club World (business class)
– $400 off for travel in First
Following the extension, you can book discounted flights for travel through March 31, 2017. The 2015 discount expires on October 31, 2015, so for now I think it’s safe to assume that the renewal expires October 31, 2016, though it’s possible that the offer could be pulled at any time.
