500 Free United Miles With Visa Mobile Offers Sign-up

It seems that every industry these days is focused on investing in mobile technology. I now do most of my banking from my iPhone and aloft hotels is piloting a program where you can get your room key automatically downloaded on your mobile phone so you can skip the front check in desk (sign- me up for that!).

United is now offering 500 free miles (registration link) for signing up with their mobile shopping platform. Once signed up, they’ll send you up to three texts per week with offers that might appeal to you. I just signed up, so I’m not sure what kind of offers they will be, but it appears that there will be opportunities to earn extra United miles for spend on your Visa (note: it does not need to be a Chase United Explorer card- I successfully registered my Sapphire Preferred).

Of course nothing in this world is actually free, so not only do you give them the right to text you offers, but they also get access to your personal shopping information from Visa “..I understand and agree that my Visa card’s transaction history (which may include my flight itinerary information purchased with my Visa card) with United Airlines and other merchants may be used to provide me with offers and messages based on my purchase behavior, and I agree to the broader terms and conditions of participation in the MileagePlus mobile offers program. I acknowledge my name and email address and mobile number will also be collected by MileagePlus and subject to MileagePlus privacy policy (see MileagePlus website).”

So basically they will be able to understand your purchase history and then select offers targeted towards you. Is that worth it for 500 United miles (roughly $10 to me)? Only you can say, but I personally did it because I will just un-enroll once I get my miles in 6-8 weeks.

Free 500 miles for registering!

To opt-out:
(a) send a text message with the words “STOP” to 81825 or “STOP” to any text message you may receive from MileagePlus mobile offers (or such other short code that may be used in the future);
(b) visit https://rtm.visa.com/MileagePlus and unsubscribing your enrolled mobile number

Must have an active Visa card to qualify

My first three texts, with one confirming the 500 miles.

Well wait… you don’t just get the 500 miles, it looks like you get miles for purchases as well?

  • thepointsguy

Yea- you get text offers with chances to earn miles. Interesting.. I haven’t gotten my first offer, but hopefully its more than just “Earn 20x points per dollar at 1-800-FLOWERS”

  • Michael Adberg

Warning: don’t try a Google Voice number. Causes some pain.

Next: This is just like the Hilton promo – same backend. I guess that was sponsored by Visa also.

  • Evan

Is there a period of time for which you must be registered first in order to qualify for the 500 miles?? i.e. can you register and then immediately opt out and still get the miles?

  • Ram Kashyap

Thanks TPG. Enrolled and got the confirmation texts.

    Thanks

  • bayguy

This is the quickest 500 miles earned as I got my miles already. Thanks TPG.

  • bmp

    Any workaround for this?

  • Wgrubbs

So in the terms and conditions, it states that you need to register with your mileage id number.

On the application link, there is NOT a place to insert the mileage plan number.

So, how do they know to which account to credit the 500 points???

    HELP

Ironically, their Chase United credit card is a Mastercard (mine is anyways) and they are promoting a VISA so I use a Capital One or Citibank card.

I would have thought they would try to be consistent but this is a promotion by VISA, where the reward is United miles. It caused some confusion for a few minutes.

Having the same problem. Signed up with Priority and Hilton just fine but United isn’t working for me.

  • Asubrapp

Been trying to do this for 2 days. IT sends the confirmation text with the code but when I enter it, the code is not accepted. Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas to get around it?

  • Startwine

United SUCKS!!! Trying all day, left message with customer service…No response. Says it sends message to phone but it does not!

  • MSPtoAnywhere

I give up :( Flat out doesn’t work.

  • Mark the Shark

Did anyone’s points show up yet? I signed up, and I’m still waiting for mine to post.

  • Boldm28

for people who get a conformation code via text/sms and then when you try to enter it errors out , try giving a different visa card

  • Max

Looks like this offer expired. The registration link no longer mentions 500 mile bonus.
