5 Things I Loved About My Trip to Istanbul

Istanbul is Europe and Asia all in one. We all know the city’s attractions are amazing, from the Blue Mosque to the Hagia Sophia to the Basilica Cistern, and even though there’s been some political turmoil and even a bombing/shooting while I was there (thanks so much for the tweets and emails of concern!), I still think…

I Finally Used My SPG Amex for an International Hotel Stay

One of my biggest gripes with the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express has been the foreign transaction fees, which meant that it didn’t make sense to use my card internationally even when staying at a Starwood property. However, amidst the recent addition of several new benefits, Amex has finally done away with the foreign transaction fees on this card,…

Hotel Review: Soho House Istanbul

Being an SPG member, I usually prefer to stay at a St. Regis property in any city. However, since my latest trip was an actual vacation with friends who were all staying at the well-situated Soho House Istanbul, I decided to leave The Points Guy at the door for a bit and stay with them. After all, everyone deserves a…

Staying on top of…

Flight Review: A330 Delta One (Business Class) – JFK to Istanbul

To kick off a summer trip to Turkey and Greece, my friends and I flew Delta from JFK to Istanbul on one of the Delta One A330s. While Delta One sounds like a first-class product, it is actually an update to Delta’s former BusinessElite for international and transcontinental routes. I was excited to try out this plane because the…

Are Amex Centurion Lounges Worth a Detour?

TPG reader Ian writes via twitter: @thepointsguy — “is it worth going out of your way to get to a Centurion Lounge?” The state of domestic airline lounges isn’t all that great. While a lot of airlines are upgrading lounges, they’ve also increased the cost of admission, as well as prices for premium drinks and food. However,…
