Marriott is offering silver status for elite members of the LAN airlines frequent flyer program. Even if you aren’t elite with LAN, its still worth signing up- many people have been able to take advantage of similar promotions and since its free, it can’t hurt to try. However, if it doesn’t work out (like the bmi incident), simply shrug it off and carry on- it wouldn’t be worth getting upset over.

Marriott Silver isn’t game changing, but it does come with some decent perks like 20% point bonuses on paid stays, late checkout, discounts and enhanced customer service.

To take advantage of this offer:

Simply sign up for a free LAN frequent flyer account here.

Then sign up for a new Marriott Rewards account using this link.

How long does the status last? One year?

  • JamesORD

I’ve been trying to sign up for a LanPass account for a month now. The website keeps erroring out when I submit my information. I tried emails and phone calls and nothing. So good luck to any new signups.

@Matthew- it doesn’t state, but I’d assume until at least February 2012 and possibly 2013

@JamesORD- I just signed up for a LAN account in 2 minutes and had no issues at all. Maybe try again using my link?

  • JamesORD

That is bizarre. I tried using your link and had the same result. For some reason it must just not like me. Thanks for the heads up.

  • The Points Guy

@James- it probably found a dupe account. Try again with a different address

Double post from Gary’s blog (who linked to your post) but..

Is it possible to merge this new account with an existing non-elite one to keep existing points?

  • The Points Guy

Dave- they may revoke the status, but its worth a try in my opinion.

When signing up via this promo, are you limited to earning miles with LAN, or can you earn points with Marriott? I ask because when signing up through this link it appears as though your earning preference is chosen for you – and points is not available.

  • The Points Guy

Weird- it seems to have grayed out the points option. I’d just sign up for Kilometers and change it after the fact.

  • David

@tibi, good catch. I signed up and got Silver, but didn’t notice that it had put LAN as my default earnings preference. I just changed it to a domestic airline without any problems.

Do you need a new Marriott account or can I use my current account.

    Jeff

I signed up using that link and got my Marriott account 2 days later, but its not silver. Did this happen to anyone else?

  • Vick

    Worked! Got Silver! Thanks!
