Earlier this year, JetBlue introduced several new credit cards from Barclaycard, and they’re fantastic. TPG signed up for the JetBlue Plus Card right away, as did other members of our team. There are many great reasons to add one (or several) of these cards to your wallet, but if you’re a big spender with JetBlue, the extra 6 points per dollar you’ll earn on airfare purchases make this card an absolute no-brainer.
As these cards only just became available a few months ago, it’s, of course, possible that you have existing JetBlue reservations that were charged to another card. If you’re in that boat, we have some amazing news to share — JetBlue is allowing customers to move previously booked flights to the new cards!
TPG Contributor Adam Kotkin just earned more than 7,000 bonus TrueBlue points by moving two non-refundable purchases to his new JetBlue Plus Card, and you can too. He simply called the Mosaic line and made his request — the rep he spoke to confirmed that this is standard procedure for the airline, which is more than happy to have you use its new cards — so you should be able to do the same by calling JetBlue at (800) 538-2583. The agent will refund the card you used for your original purchase and charge the same amount to your JetBlue card.
We value TrueBlue points at between 1 and 1.4 cents each, though it’s possible to get much more value out of them than that, especially with the airline’s current 25% off promo (before factoring in the extra 10% you’ll get back as a cardholder). So even if you charged your flights to a card that earns three points per dollar, like the American Express Premier Rewards Gold Card or Citi Prestige, it can still make sense to earn 6x by moving your previous charges over to the new cards — unless, of course, your JetBlue bookings helped you reach a minimum-spend requirement, in which case you may not want to risk getting a credit for those expenses.
