Delta Air Lines just announced this morning that they will be redefining their product offerings onboard with new names and amenities. They will now offer five products to choose from, including Delta One, First Class and Delta Comfort+ which offer premium amenities. BusinessElite get renamed as Delta One, and Economy Comfort gets rebranded as Delta Comfort +.
Starting March 1, 2015, Delta customers can choose between:
- Delta One, formerly BusinessElite, is offered on long-haul international routes; also between New York-JFK and Los Angeles or San Francisco*
- First Class is offered on short-haul international and domestic routes
- Delta Comfort+ offers an upgraded experience on all two cabin aircraft around the world
- Main Cabin experience is provided everywhere Delta flies offering a high standard of customer service
- Basic Economy offers Main Cabin service with fewer flexibility options available in select markets
Who Gets Access to Comfort +
SkyMiles Diamond and Platinum Medallion members will continue to enjoy complimentary upgrade eligibility to First Class and will also receive complimentary access to Delta Comfort+ seats at booking. On March 1, 2015, Gold and Silver Medallion members will continue to enjoy complimentary upgrade eligibility to First Class as well as complimentary access to Delta Comfort+ seats starting 72 hours and 24 hours prior to departure, respectively.
All Medallions will continue to be eligible for unlimited complimentary upgrades to First Class.
In addition, Flying Blue Platinum members will receive access complimentary at booking. Flying Blue Gold, VS Flying Club Gold and Platinum will receive complimentary access 72 hours out, and Flying Blue Silver, VA Velocity Gold and Silver members can choose it 24 hours out for free.
There will be no complimentary access or discounts for Delta Comfort+ for Sky Team Elite or Sky Team Elite Plus members. Newly designed Delta One, First Class and Delta Comfort+ seat covers will be installed on aircraft through mid-2015.
Here’s a video of Delta’s new cabins:
Some highlights with Comfort+ include complimentary beer, wine, and spirits as well as complimentary premium snacks on domestic flights of 900 miles or more. It will also be nice to have dedicated overhead bin space in this cabin, so you won’t have to fight with those in Economy. Last week, Delta discontinued their Have One On Us coupons, and now it seems that this is why, since you’ll no longer need them, as drinks will be complimentary in this cabin.
When it comes to Delta One, their new BusinessElite cabin, the seats will have new quilted seat covers, however it doesn’t appear that there will be any major updates to the meals or service at this time. Overall I think these changes are positive as upgrades by adding complimentary drinks and premium snacks to Comfort+.
However, if you’re a Gold Medallion, you’ll no longer be able to choose Comfort+ at booking for free, as you’ll only receive complimentary access to these seats 72 hours before. If you’re a Silver Medallion, similar to today, you’ll be able to choose these seats for free at 24 hours out at check-in.
What are your thoughts about Delta’s new redefined cabin? If you are a Delta flyer who is looking to bank some extra miles this card is a great addition for your wallet. While you'll earn 2 miles per dollar on Delta purchases and 1 mile per dollar on everything else, you'll also have access to other perks like priority boarding, a first bag checked free and 20% off in-flight purchases.
