Similar to last year, Delta Air Lines just announced that they would be selling Medallion Qualifying Miles (MQMs), up to 10,000 MQMs per account. In addition, for those who are short on Medallion Qualifying Dollars (MQDs), the purchase price of the miles will count toward your MQD requirement, so you could earn both if you were to purchase.
However, be warned that these prices are extremely high, so I wouldn’t recommend buying these unless you absolutely need them and are unable to mileage run before the end of the year. Delta will be selling MQMs between now and December 31, 2014 in increments of 2,500 MQMs, up to 10,000 MQMs, which will post on your 2014 balance and be applied towards your 2015 Medallion status.
Other options to earn some last-minute MQMs include their Delta co-branded credit cards such as the Delta Platinum Amex, which offers 5,000 MQMs after spending $1,000, or the Delta Reserve Amex, which offers 10,000 MQMs after your first purchase.
Prices are as follows for General SkyMiles Members:
- 2,500 MQMs for $625
- 5,000 MQMs for $825
- 7,500 MQMs for $1,025
- 10,000 MQMs for $1,225
Prices for Silver Medallion members are higher:
- 2,500 MQMs for $725
- 5,000 MQMs for $925
- 7,500 MQMs for $1,125
- 10,000 MQMs for $1,325
Prices for Gold Medallion members are even higher:
- 2,500 MQMs for $925
- 5,000 MQMs for $1,125
- 7,500 MQMs for $1,325
- 10,000 MQMs for $1,725
Prices for Platinum and Diamond Medallions are the MOST expensive:
- 2,500 MQMs for $1,025
- 5,000 MQMs for $1,325
- 7,500 MQMs for $1,775
- 10,000 MQMs for $2,095
These prices have increased from last year (example, last year as a Silver you could buy 10,000 MQMs for $1,075). Is this worth it? Probably not, however it’s a case by case basis, and it depends how important Delta Medallion status is to you!
Make sure to be aware of all the terms and conditions associated with buying the MQMs.
- MQMs purchased will be deposited to your 2014 MQM balance
- MQMs purchased through this offer are non-refundable
- Dollars spent toward MQM purchase will apply to your 2014 MQD balance
- The maximum MQMs that may be purchased for one SkyMiles account for the 2015 Medallion year is 10,000
- MQMs and MQDs will post to your SkyMiles account within 24 hours of purchase
- MQMs are available in increments of 2,500
