Air Canada Aeroplan is running a promotion which entices people to transfer their hotel points to Aeroplan. Aeroplan does this because the hotel companies actually pay Aeroplan for the miles if you decide to transfer your hard earned hotel points for airline miles. Register here.
Details: Transfer by April 30, 2011.
1,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles for hotel transfers that amount to at least 5,000 Aeroplan Miles
2,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles for hotel transfers that amount to at least 10,000 Aeroplan Miles
5,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles for hotel transfers that amount to at least 25,000 Aeroplan Miles
Participating hotel programs:
Best Western International® – Best Western Rewards®
Carlson(SM) Hotels Worldwide – Goldpoints PlusSM
Choice Hotels® – Choice Privileges®
Coast Hotels & Resorts – Coast Rewards
Hilton Worldwide® – Hilton HHonorsâ„¢
Hyatt Hotels & Resorts® – Hyatt Gold Passportâ„¢
InterContinental® Hotels Group – Priority Club® Rewards
Marriott® International – Marriott Rewards®
Starwood Hotels & Resorts – Starwood Preferred Guest®
Wyndham® Worldwide – Wyndham Rewards®
While most hotel programs offer lousy airline transfer rates, Starwood probably has the most lucrative – a 1:1 transfer and they kick in 5,000 extra miles for every 20,000 points transferred. So if you register for the Air Canada promotion and transferred 20,000 Starwood points, you’d end up with 30,000 Aeroplan miles:
20,000 1:1 Transfer
5,000 mile Starwood bonus
5,000 mile Aeroplan bonus
The only downside is that you can only earn the Air Canada bonus once per partner. However, you can earn the Starwood promotion an unlimited amount of times. For example, you could transfer 60,000 Starwood points to Air Canada and end up with 80,000 miles (60,000 base, plus 15,000 Starwood bonus plus 5,000 Aeroplan special bonus) – enough for a roundtrip business class ticket from North America to most cities in Western Europe. Aeroplan also offers mini-round the world trips, which can be a huge value for people who want to visit multiple continents without shelling out for a true round-the-world itinerary.
Tip of the hat to TPG reader Martin for this one!
