The Choice to Maximize Your Travel
When I began The Points Guy in 2010, I had no idea that it would become what it is today. I take great pride in the fact that we have helped millions of people get value from their loyalty points and miles as we’ve become the go-to, trusted source for travel news.
But my proudest moment yet is the recent extension of our brand into a new app, available for download in the Apple App Store. It provides you with all of our news, deals, reviews and so much more.
The feature I love the most is our awards tracker, which tracks a user’s points and miles and gives a holistic view of their "points net worth." This feature allows users to extract the maximum value when booking directly with their airline of choice. To date, we track over 18 billion points. We also alert our users when points expirations are approaching so they don't lose value, especially since many people haven't traveled much over the past two years.
This consumer-centric tool has been designed to demystify the complexities of award travel, helping all readers make the most of their accumulated points and miles.
But American Airlines has taken issue with this approach and demanded that The Points Guy cease and desist from syncing the miles data of AAdvantage customers with The Points Guy App. In response, The Points Guy filed suit against American Airlines. American wants to control (and by extension, limit) what you can do with your rewards, and they’re trying everything in their power to stop us from helping you, the consumer, including countersuing us.
Here at TPG, we strongly disagree with that approach. We believe that you have worked hard to earn your points and miles and have the right to choose whether you share personal information with a third-party app that will make your life easier.

Loyalty is valuable
Loyalty programs are only as good as the level of engagement from their members — which includes joining the program, earning points or miles in the program, learning more about the program and - finally - redeeming rewards.
This is exactly what the TPG App is driving — every day for every user.
An informed consumer will actually be a better one for an airline like American Airlines. What company wouldn’t want a highly engaged and knowledgeable customer who, thanks to a tool like the TPG App, is positioned to do even more business with you?
Put simply, our team has built the TPG App with the goal of empowering you to make the most of your points and miles — and we’re fully committed to seeing that mission through.
After all, you’ve worked hard to acquire these rewards — through spending, traveling or otherwise doing business with a company and its partners. Why shouldn’t you be equipped with everything you need to use your points and miles in the best possible way?

You’re in the captain’s seat
With the TPG App, you decide which of your loyalty programs and credit cards should be accessed in the app — solely for the purpose of making your points and miles journey easier. When using the TPG App, you’re always in control of what information you share.
But when you do, you’re empowered to become a more savvy consumer. We know just how difficult it can be to navigate the world of frequent flyer programs. Common questions we get include:
- Which airline miles should I use?
- How do I get the most value out of them?
- How do I prevent my miles from expiring?
The last bullet above is potentially the most significant. It’s incredibly frustrating to engage with a program, like AAdvantage, only to lose out on your points and miles due to a period of inactivity.
But that information is easily accessible when you connect your AAdvantage account to the TPG App, putting you in control.

Your data is secure
TPG takes security and privacy seriously. We are committed to keeping data safe and have processes and protocols in place to do so. We follow ISO 27001 and leverage industry standard vendors and tools to provide for safe and secure experience for our users.
Bottom line
Our goal here at TPG is to make travel easier and more accessible to everyone — just like we’ve done over the last 18 months. Whether your trip was cancelled due to the pandemic or you’ve faced expiring miles, dealt with inflexible airline vouchers, or navigated ever-changing country reopenings — TPG has been with you every step of the way.
The TPG App is an extension of these efforts, designed to make your points-and-miles journey as seamless and rewarding as possible.
And we will continue to be the advocate for you, the consumer.
