In case you missed it, American Airlines’ newly refreshed premium card launched its highest-ever offer the other day. And as a longtime American flyer who has yet to spring for this card, I really think this is the moment to go for it.
Here’s the offer, and why it’s got me hooked this time around.
- For a limited time, new cardholders can earn 125,000 bonus miles with the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Legend Mastercard® after spending $15,000 on purchases in the first five months from account opening.
For starters, this is not just an elevated offer. This takes what used to be the rare, highest-ever offer (100,000 miles) and raises it another 25%. And those extra 25,000 miles alone are worth a free round-trip flight!
And we value AAdvantage miles quite a bit higher than most other airline miles thanks to all of the great sweet spots in American’s award pricing. So with 125,000 of them, you could actually book lots of incredible redemptions. Think: round-trip lie-flat business class to places like Europe (or even Japan!) — the kinds of flights that make long flights enjoyable, and would cost you thousands of dollars if paying cash.
Another big deal: This card still provides the most generous lounge access of any airline card — at a time when its lounges are getting a lot more expensive to visit.
Following recent changes, a full Admirals Club membership — which includes unlimited access, generous guest and sharing policies, and a wide network of partner lounges — costs anywhere from $1,200 to $1,400 annually (depending on your elite status tier). But if you have this card, your membership is complimentary.
As a frequent traveler, I get a ton of value out of lounge access. Every time I grab a free meal and a cocktail in a lounge, I’m saving at least $40 (or much more, if I’m with my family).
So even though the card’s annual fee just rose another $100 to $695, it’s still by far the cheapest way to have such generous lounge access. (So generous, in fact, that having this card would allow me to give up the other premium card I keep for lounge access.)
Plus, cardholders now get elite status and benefits with Omni Hotels & Resorts — a chain I love, and would be thrilled to get perks (and free nights!) with. And the card has some other new statement credits and benefits that really make that annual fee a wash.
If all of that sounds as terrific to you as it does to me, get this 125,000-point limited-time offer while you can. There has truly never been a better time to go for this card.
