Sharing photos and documenting trips are definitely fun parts of traveling, but the Ayana Resort and Spa in Bali, Indonesia wants you to unplug completely.

The resort is banning smartphones and other electronic devices from its pool as a way to help guests live “in the moment.”

Every day of the week, from 9am to 5pm, guests heading to the pool area will have to leave their electronic devices like smartphones, tablets, Kindles and digital cameras behind. Lockers are available for people who do not want to leave their devices unattended in their rooms.

A representative from Ayana told CNN Travel that guests are encouraged to use the opportunity “truly relax and be in the moment.” The resort is providing games like Jenga and decks of cards for some low-tech fun.
Social media, especially Instagram, has served as a great tool for trip-inspiration. But it’s easy to get caught up with the quest for the perfect selfie. And having that smartphone in hand to take pictures and post to social media can easily lead into checking work emails and slipping back into the daily grind — negating the point of a vacation in the first place. In fact, a recent LinkedIn study found that 70% of people don’t disconnect from work while they’re away.
But at the Ayana Resort, it seems Instagram and your work inbox, will just have to wait for some well-deserved poolside R&R.
